Or both. It depends on whether you think it is authentic or fake. twitter users are facing yet another attack, this time a phishing threat. A spamming operation previously flooded users of the social networking and micro-blogging site with follower notifications which led to spammy and bogus profiles. Cyber criminals are now exploiting Twitter’s Direct Messages function, instructing users that pictures of them were seen on another website, and the link is provided in the same message. A variation of this baiting technique informs users that the same website offers a free popular mobile phone. Figure 1. Sample twitter update feed with an unsolicited update The link provided in the messages have the domain twitterblog(dot)access, which appears to be somehow related to twitter itself. Interestingly, clicking on the link redirects users to a bogus Facebook login page, one that looks convincingly like the original. Figure 2. Embedded spam link leads to this page (above) Any login credentials provided are logged and stolen. To hide the theft, phishers designed the page to give the appearance of processing the submitted information. Once submitted, it then displays an error message, and then loads the legitimate Facebook site, as if nothing happened. Facebook credentials were also the object of a phishing attack back in September. Other Facebook-related Web threats include: Facebook Picture Joke Connives with Email Harvester ‘Bad Blog’ Can Give Facebook Users More Than a Bad Name Facebook Mystery Friend? No, Malware. The Trend Micro Smart Protection Network already blocks the phishing site, protecting users from information theft. Users are strongly cautioned against logging into sites where they are redirected to/from spammed links. Checking browser address bars for the proper URLs helps in verify the proper site, too. URL inconsistencies should immediately be a warning of fraud. Earlier today, in an unrelated but equally troublesome attack, a hacker seems to have found their way to the twitter accounts of some thirty-plus personalities (including Fox News, President-Elect Barack Obama, CNN’s Rick Sanchez,  and Britney Spears). This security breach forced twitter to lock down the accounts and investigate the issue. Considering cybercriminals’ propensity to ‘go where the money is,’ micro-blogging has indeed hit mainstream. Hacked twitter accounts are being used to post messages that promote weight-loss drugs. The messages vary in the stated text, but generally states the same message and are all followed by a link that leads to websites where the drugs are being sold. Searches through twitter for “$5 acai” yields the posts of users whose accounts were hacked. The spammers even utilized TinyURL–a free URL redirection service that is used to turn long URLs into shorter ones. The service has been frequently used by twitter users as it lets them use more of the 140 character limit for messages instead of links. This makes the spam posts even more convincing, making the message not much different from any other post, not to mention masking the actual spam URL with the one provided by TinyURL. Worldometers states that there currently more than 1 billion overweight adults, with at least 300 million of them clinically obese. With such a huge number of concerned users as potential targets, a lure such as weight-loss drugs has good chances to become a hit. The tactic was first noticed by security researchers on Monday but has yet to be officially announced by Twitter. It has been designed to prevent surfers from being automatically redirected to sites packed with dangerous exploits. The widespread use of URL shortening in tweets (which can be no longer than 140 characters) makes it easy to hide the true destination of links in Twitter. The site has thus adopted this approach, following the increased worm, spam, and account-hijacking attacks targeting it. Whenever a twitter user attempts to post a link to a known malware/phishing URL, the message “Oops! Your tweet contained a URL to a known malware site!” will appear and, after a few seconds, deletes the tweet. But the question “Does the feature really work?” remains. Trend Micro Advanced Threats Researcher Ryan Flores says, “twitter is filtering malicious sites as a ‘free service’ so we cannot expect it to provide the best protection. After all, this is not Twitter’s core business, micro-blogging is.” In fact, earlier analysis revealed that the site’s filtering service still cannot block Koobface-related URLs as shown in the figure on the left. Because it has been a favorite cybercriminal target lately, we cannot blame twitter for trying but we should not expect too much too soon as well. The effort is a good first step for the site but users should not be complacent just because it is trying to block malicious sites (albeit ineffectively) from being posted as legitimate tweets. Trust issues are not fundamentally different from other Web, email, and link techniques out there. It all comes down to context and being sufficiently aware of not blindly opening everything others suggest you do. Users of the micro-blogging service twitter are used to seeing the fail whale, a graphic that appears when the service’s capacity is overloaded. During the denial-of-service (DoS) attack, however, the site was left completely unreachable for around 90 minutes. This means a hacker used a herd of infected computers to send communication requests to overwhelm its servers. At the same time, a terse message on the site’s status blog said it was down. A while later, it added, “We are defending against a DoS attack and will update our status again shortly.” Facebook and other social networking sites appeared to have been affected by Twitter’s shutdown as the latter runs applications through these sites. As such, there were speculations that the glitches were related. This is not the first time that twitter has fallen prey to cybercriminal attacks. The following blog posts point out just some of the recent attacks on the sites: Malicious twitter Posts Get More Personal Koobface Increases twitter Activity Koobface Tweets Bogus Facebook Malware and a Dancing Girl New Koobface Upgrade Makes It Takedown Proof Because twitter is one the the fastest-growing Internet companies today, it is not surprising that companies use its services to know more about their prospective employees and keep in touch with their clients. In fact, Twitter’s number of unique visitors worldwide reached 44.5 million in June, up 15-fold year over year, according to comScore data. As such, companies that heavily rely on the site’s services may incur losses due to this most recent attack. There are speculations that the attack was not like a botnet-style distributed DoS (DDoS) attack. According to The Register, the torrent of traffic that brought the site down resulted from myriads of people clicking a link in spammed messages referencing a well-known blogger called Cyxymu at the same time. They contained links to Cyxymu’s Twitter, Facebook, LiveJournal, and YouTube accounts, all of which have been reported to receive abnormal amounts of traffic. The theory was backed by an article from CNET News, which quoted Facebook’s chief security officer saying the attacks targeting multiple websites all contained traffic linking to accounts held by Cyxymu. A few days after the attack, several theories as to who and what were behind the twitter attack surfaced. twitter is still not sure about how to make good amount of money from their site. Still they’re trying to figure it out, but twitter users are already found handful of methods to monetise their account. Now you can find handful of twitter applications. It was made possible after twitter opened the twitter feed to third-party application through API. twitter monetising was born through this same API. Earlier I wrote a post on five ways to make money from your twitter account. There I’ve talked about five methods such as selling your twitter profile space, selling Ads on your twitter feed and also I told you that there is some twitter who’s even sold their twitter account in EBay. There is one point I told you about becoming a Pro-twitter and give access to followers after getting some payment from them. But if you’re to offer that service you’ll have to set-up your own payment gateway or you should go for third party gateways such as PayPal or 2CO. TwitPub By knowing above mentioned hassles TwitPub has been introduced to cater the demand for Pro-Twitters. If you’re to become a Pro-twitter then possibly it’s the most potential service for you.

Yesterday I come to know that I’m the third most ELITE twitter user in Sri Lanaka . Here I’m going to write a post on 5 ways to monetize your twitter account. I personally suggest you to have a look @ the ebook Make Money on Twitter. You’ll learn first what twitter is, and then how it may be used to secure your financial freedom. 1. Advertise on Twitter You can sell space on twitter profile and make some money out of it. I recently come to know about two sites which will help you to monotize your twitter account. Check out the sites http://www.twittad.com/ http://be-a-magpie.com/ Rumbling Lankan has written a post on How to find advertisers for your twitter profile. 2. Pro-Twitter You can allow followers only after they paying some fee. This method is not possible unless you’re a popular figure in a niche. For example say, you’re a well known Internet marketer and you start twitter account and make twits. You only allow members who paid to follow your twits. If you’re a popular figure then you’ll have enough followers. Check out about TwitPub which is made for Pro-Twitters. 3. Use it to Promote your products Use twitter to promote your products. If you’re an e-book seller then use twitter and promote your eBooks on Twitter. It does works when you have enormous number of followers.
Promote your blogs and get more traffic to your blog. More traffic more money Also you can use twitter to promote your affiliate products to make money online. 4. Pay Per Twit You contact the advertisers directly and you come to an agreement where they’ll pay you for each Twit. This will work when you’re a popular and known Twitter. 5. Sell your account on Ebay This may sound ridiculous to you but there are people who sold their twitter account for $500 even. So don’t give up work on it. As I always say, you can’t make money out of nothing. You need dedication and it’ll take some time to generate money online. Don’t give up keep on trying. One day you can make enough money online. I make around $100 – $150 per month from several sources. I gave you these figures just to inspire you. Remember this amount is kept on increasing every month. Grâce à un lecteur j’ai découvert Webmynd qui propose lui d’ajouter non seulement des résultats de twitter mais également de Wikipédia, Youtube, Delicious, … Webmynd se présente sous la forme d’un plugin Firefox qui ajoute une sidebar dans votre navigateur (sidebar extensible qui ne prend pas beaucoup de place ). Une fois installée et configurée (vous suivez le guide en anglais qui vous demande si vous voulez activer toutes les fonctions) dès que vous ferez une recherche Google vous aurez un « supplément » sur la droite de vos résultats. Vous pouvez ajouter 28 sources différentes de Google et ainsi aggrémenter vos recherches. Dans la sidebar vous pouvez voir votre historique de navigation avec pour chaque page un screenshot pour pouvoir mieux vous repérer. Il y a également une partie réservée au partage des pages que vous visitez, sur Twitter, Delicious, Digg, … Vous avez même la possibilité de sauvegarder vos snapshots dans un dossier surt votre ordinateur afin de, par exemple, les réutiliser plus tard pour d’autres choses. About two weeks ago, I installed the “twitter Updater” plugin to figure out if pinging twitter brings traffic. Turns out, it does. Pinging twitter doesn’t bring a lot yet, primarily because I am totally new to twitter and the blog about blogging niche. So, it goes without saying I don’t have many twitter followers. The first week, I got zero twitter hits, I’m now getting 2-3 hits a day. I just checked twitter page and I now have 5 followers — and when you consider that I am entirely incompetent when it comes to Twitter, that’s not too shabby. With luck, more people who like twitter will enjoy my posts and stop by. (I also need to devote some time to visiting my twitter followers. Traffic from followers is a really good type of traffic. twitter gives them a way to follow you. Mind you, if pinging twitter took any time, it might not be worth the effort. But the fact is, once you install “twitter Updater” plugin on your Wordpress blog, it pings twitter automatically when you publish. I now need to find a plugin that lets me show my tweets here at my blog. I need it to help publicise the fact that I can be followed at Twitter, but the one from twitter often loaded slowly. Also, since twitter nofollows my links, I feel that, in fairness, I need to nofollow my links to their site. I now think of using twitter the way I use feeds. Some people want track posts on twitter instead of RSS; so make it easy! (Oh, and by the way, in fairness, I should tell you I got the idea of pinging twitter by observing Jason Calacanis, who has been pinging twitter for a whilenow. Twitter: Use for Rampant Self Promotion!
Did you know you can update your twitter account automatically every time you create a blog post? And you can ping Technorati to get the tweet listed? That means twitter can be used to create two streams of traffic: one directly from twitter and one from Technorati! I realized all this yesterday when I noticed that Jason Calacanis’s tweets appear on Technorati. I’d never visited twitter until the day before yesterday because the “uses” I’d seen described didn’t seem useful to me. But I know that Technorati searches some traffic, so it’s worth having your posts get listed multiple times. If there is an automatic way to do all this, I’m all for it! Clearly, I need to do two things: Update twitter automatically Get my Tweet account to ping Technorati automatcially! I’m now updating twitter automatically; I haven’t found a way to get twitter to ping technorati automatically, but I will by Saturday! Meanwhile, I ping manually. 1 If you want to get a start being listed at Twitter, do this: Join Twitter: Just click “Join Twitter“; (not an affiliate link!) Update Your twitter Status:You can update manually. However, if you use wordpress, it’s better to install a plugin to automatically update your twitter account when you publish a blog post. I’ve described a few below. Publicize your twitter page: Some of the plugins mentioned below will do this for you in a variety of different ways. I’m looking for one that will ping technorati and other services but haven’t found one. For now, I’m plan to eventually do nothing more than post link to my twitter Page on my sidebar– near the RSS feed button. For now, I’ve added a twitter widget at the bottom of my right hand sidebar. (That lets me check that the Wordtwitter is actually working.) That process of setting yourself up to update twitter will take you four or five minutes; it’s probably worth it. Later on, you can look for a better plugin that does what you prefer. Meanwhile, here is a handy list of the ones I’ve found. Five twitter Plugins for Wordpress WordTwit: Duane Storey’s WordTwit adds your blog entries to your twitter account; the title and link show. That’s it. I’m using this because I’m unfamiliar with Twitter. I’ll also just post the link to my twitter page somewhere on my blog. twitter Updater: Updates your twitter when you post or edit a blog entry. Let’s you specify text for the update, which is probably convenient if you want to give your twitter friends a bit of information about your post. Twit This: Adds a yet another social networking button to your blog that lets your visitors twit their friends. This could be useful if you think loads of your visitors use twitter a lot! twitter Plugin: Alex King’s twitter Plugin lets you do a lot, but I’m having trouble getting Alex’s pages to load and/or getting his zip files to download. I’ll include the link when I finally succeed. Twitt-Twoo Dean J. Robinson shows your twitter status, and icon at your blog. Also lets you update twitter from your blog. This seems useful if you want to mention both your blog updates and also post honest to goodness tweets at twitter. To find other twitter Plugins for Wordpress visit 10 Best twitter Tools for Wordpress Blogs. Because more and more twitter plugins are being written, you can also google twitter plugin wordpress to find the plugins that help you promote your blog. I’m actually going to be looking for something that reports my blog posts several hours after I post and then pings Technorati. Why? Because if I’m going to blatantly self promote, I want nearly duplicate listings at Technorati to be spaced out That will maximize traffic from searches. Summary: Four Steps to Promote Your Blog: 1) Join Twitter, 2) Use a plugin to either just post your blog to twitter or start displaying twitter at your blog, 3) Put up a link somewhere to tell twitter fans they can follow you at Twitter, 4) Ping Technorati and 5) Wait for traffic to roll on in! Was sich am Rechner zu Hause recht einfach erledigen lässt, ist mit dem cellity Communicator bequem unterwegs möglich. Twittern, Mailkonten verwalten und Kontakte pflegen - alles in einem. Magnus.de hat den cellity Communicator ausführlich getestet und kommt zu einem sehr positiven Ergebnis. Besonders hervorgehoben wird die Einfache Installation der Software auf jedem Mobiltelefon. Komplizierte Konfigurationen und Servereinstellungen sucht das Programm von selbst und steht sofort zur Verfügung. I have been “twittering” now for 4 months and as I started getting more into the whole concept, I soon realized that there is large amounts of money to be made on Twitter. From there on forward, I have never looked back and making money with twitter was absolutely sweet! The reason for doing this post is to shed some light on how people are making money on twitter every single day and how you can easy earn money too. I will assume that you are in some way acquainted to twitter and that you have all the basics down so that I can dive right into ideas you can use to start earning money with Twitter. Lets start with some of the key monetization elements that an individual can explore using twitter: Advertising Directly - If you have a lot of twitter followers, you will have a wide reach of each one of your messages that you send out which could easily convert into sales. You can probably look into selling impression or tweets on classified sites or by approaching another website that is related to your followers. make money with Twitter Recommending Products - You could always recommend a product/brand/service on behalf of a certain advertiser or persuade your twitter followers to take a certain action (buying, signing up etc) Doing a Promotion - You could help the advertiser to promote a new service or product to all of your twitter followers.
