What will happen over the next 20yrs as these kids develop. Yeah, yeah, flying cars and microchips blaw blaw blaw… Let’s move past that typical crap and be realistic. What happens to a generation that uses communications and plays with technology from the time their able to hold it in their hand. From age 2 kids these kids have touch screen toys popping digital bubble wrap, and watching their Pops play labyrinth with an Accelerometer rather than a marble. Their parents have always had a device that’s either in their hand, pocket, purse at all times. Basically I’m curious about how the younger generation will take our greatest achievements and turn them into daily items. Jun200924 Kira Stegman 1 The Readius Reveals New Technology A problem many of us have with using our mobile devices for internet, or choosing an e-reader over a book, may be the size of the screen.  We want our devices to be pocket-sized, yet we want a big screen.  With things like the iPhone, the Kindle, and other products making developments in ease of internet browsing and e-reading, we still have to use a relatively small screen.  The Kindle has offered a new larger screen, but it doesn’t make it very portable. The Readius is the first device that will be made available that is finding a way around these problems.  By using a rollable display, the Readius folds up to a pocket-sized device, yet the screen extends to 5 inches.  There is no creasing and no fold marks, no matter how much you fold and unfold the screen.  It boasts the same quality of screen images as other e-readers, and can even be used in bright sunlight. The Readius is primarily an e-reader, but also has global wireless connectivity for internet access as well as a mobile phone.  You can check your e-mail, browse the web, call your friends, and download a book.  The battery life is 30 hours, so you won’t have to worry about it cutting out in the middle of a chapter. This is just the start of the rollable display technology.  The Readius may be the first to offer it, but we can expect to see it on our other devices soon.  Research on flexible and rollable displays has come a long way and this will be the first major test of it’s success. The Readius will launch in several countries in the fall and although they haven’t released a set price, marketing reps have said that it will be more expensive than the Kindle, which currently sells for $359. The technology is all pretty amazing to me, but I personally think that it’s just going to get better and better from here, and I wouldn’t buy the first thing that comes out.  The screen is all black and white, which is fine if you just want to use it as an e-reader, but browsing the internet without color seems a little disappointing to me.  It also seems a little slow when you watch the demo, and would be better as a touch screen.  Maybe I’m too picky, but I just know all those things will be improved on as soon as the technology catches on. Click here to see the Readius website, where you can view product specs and sign up to be notified when Readius launches in your country: www.readius.com Click Read More to see the video demonstrating the Readius.SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "The Readius Reveals New Technology", url: "http://culturepopped.com/books/readius-reveals-technology" });

Jun200930 Kira Stegman 2 Mind Reading MRI Technology This week on “60 Minutes,” they showed this segment on new brain scan technology, called Functional MRI.  By watching which parts of the brain are active, they are developing new methods of actually reading someone’s mind. This sort of technology has been in use for a while now, such as knowing which areas of the brain contain speech, memory, etc.  However, this new method can actually start to understand your intentions and emotions. Some parts of this video amaze me and other parts scare me.  Such as being able to beam a light onto your forehead and read your mind without you even knowing.  Someone questioning you will know if you’re telling the truth, or a store could use that technology to know what you want to buy and how to sell it to you.  What if we could even scan our friends and family to know if they were being honest with us?  Would we even  be able to live our lives normally anymore? They also say how they can use this to investigate crimes, which could be an incredible way of proving innocence or guilt, but there are still so many ethical questions we need to ask before we could use something like this. Apparently this technology could be reading our minds within the next few years, so it will be interesting to see what changes this brings about in society.  Big Brother isn’t just using cameras anymore.SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Mind Reading MRI Technology", url: "http://culturepopped.com/technology/mind-reading-mri-technology" });

Follow me on Twitter! Dont Trust This Guy why not take my word for it? A blog by Jim Jeffers Blogging is not Technology. Last week I was invited to speak at a local NetSquared meeting out in Tempe. Presenting on the topic of blogging forced me to take a step back to look at what I’ve been doing over the past seven years. I realized all of the technological connotations associated to blogging are irrelevant. Blogging is not about the web, rss feeds, or technology. That is just a means to an end. Blogging is about people, it’s about voices, blogging is all about you. Blogging is a medium for distributing both fact and opinion. It’s about discussion and connecting people in a relevant context. The technology just helps run the show. In my presentation I briefly explained the concept of syndication via RSS and Atom – then touched on a high level overview of what a CMS system is used for. This was mainly to acknowledge the fact that not that many people are keen on the how or why of RSS. After demystifying the essential technologies involved, I focused on what blogging is really about. You can check out my slides below or view it in fullscreen. Disclaimer: You can click through them to proceed, but you can’t step back. This is due to a shortcoming in Keynote’s export to flash functionality. I wrote a viewer tool to load the .swf file created by keynote to preload it, but I could not interact with the movie itself as it’s an older format of SWF. Eight Things I Hate About Technology
By Just Stupid on Mar 18, 2009 in Stupid Stuff
As some of you know, I am in the Internet marketing business, even so,  there are just some things I hate about the Internet and today’s technology.  I read a related article (see below) and thought I would "borrow" some of it to make my point….  1. People who start sentences with the phrase "to be honest with you." It is the fastest way I know to convince the other person you are full of crap. 2. People that wear Bluetooth dongles in their ears. I have said it before, and I’ll say it again: put the dongle down! 3. Do you really need to talk (loudly) on your cell in every public place possible?  The grocery store, the airport, the line at the bank — really!  Who are you talking to?  And why do I have to listen to it? 4. Competing with your BlackBerry. Whether in a meeting, or on a dinner date, leave your BlackBerry at home (or at least in your pocket)! It is the fastest way to demonstrate to a client or date that you are "not that into them." 5.  Being forced to learn and like Twitter.  I do not need to know that you are sitting in an airport and trying to decide between fried chicken and a cheeseburger.  Get a life and please do not share every detail when you do. 6. Getting "friended" on Facebook or LinkedIn after a business meeting. Can we please preserve the last ounce of formality that is left in business? I can live with you wearing jeans with holes in them to our meeting, but save faux friendship for faux friends. 7. Consultants. When will you finally learn that their interests will NEVER be fully aligned with yours? Consultants try to maximize their fees (as they should), not maximize your ROI. It is not the consultant’s fault, though. It is the fault of the person hiring them for not acknowledging what team they play on.  8. Writers and bloggers that need to use "in full disclosure" in their articles. This is the bizarre combination of someone with enough self-awareness to know that they are doing something wrong, but insufficient dignity to stop doing it. If you need to issue a disclaimer in your article, don’t write the article.  (Did I just do that?) From an article on Online Publishing Insider written by David Koretz is President & CEO of BlueTie, Inc. Share and Enjoy: No related posts.

Spiritual Tech?
-
The word “technology” immediately brings to mind computer innovations, space stations, and personal jetpacks that allow the user to zip around town like a superhero. But the term is actually relative, and simply refers to a culture’s use of tools and knowledge to solve problems and improve the quality of life. I believe technology is spiritual because it’s an expression of our desire to expand and explore our reality. Most unfortunately technology is abused by the governments who use it to wage war and sew destruction. And some technological advances create byproducts that pollute the air, water, and soil of our world. This is an example of negative behavior and not a legitimate statement on the virtue of technology. New leadership on a global scale and the reform or overturning of the world banking system would alleviate the proliferation of war and the mainline adherence to outdated inventions like the gasoline engine. In other words the downside of technology could be eliminated. Used properly, current knowledge could transform the face of our reality and usher in a new Utopian age. Scientists report that four states in the U.S. could provide enough wind power for the entire nation. And researchers in the UK believe one device could harness the power of ocean waves and power the entire island. Disease could be eradicated. The human life span could be doubled. Our species could colonize the solar system over the next few centuries. The far reaching benefits of genuine technological advance are limited only by the imagination. technology does not need to be a detriment to our species. Indeed if we applied the spiritual wisdom from ancient times to the pursuit and application of new innovations we could realize an enlightened future; the human race portrayed in Star Trek does not have to be fiction. I’m posting these thoughts because so many spiritual writers and teachers insinuate the abandonment of modern development is the only thing that will “save” our planet and our species. I believe this is a fallacy. Our innovation can make the world better. It is only through corruption and deliberate stupidity that our technology causes harm. When we decide to wake up and DEMAND real leadership at the political and corporate level technology will be used properly. Web Hosting: Environmental Friendly Technology
July 26th, 2009 by admin | Filed under Hosting.
Easy AdSense by UnrealDue to recent surge in internet traffic, internet has rocketed as the number one medium for communication/ information exchange, becoming an invention capable of changing modern ways of communication. Rise in Internet traffic means increase in number of users. It also means increase in people looking to expand their reach online and to do that they need to have their own web sites. Owning a web site is real easy, anyone can do that. The challenge is to make it accessible globally. To do that, web sites have to be placed at storages, which are connected to internet, capable of servicing many requests simultaneously. Such storages are called servers. Servers are large computers capable of performing complex calculations simultaneously, in very little time. They have resources like huge disk space, RAM etc. Servers provide these resources to web sites which are hosted on them. The technical term for placing a web site on server is called ‘Web Hosting’ and the companies offering such services are referred to as ‘Web Hosts’. Servers perform various operations such as processing the incoming request made by one of the users, generating response to those requests etc. Such operations require huge resources, and also huge amount of electric power.So owning a server is not something that most users can afford. So, what is the remedy to these issues? Web Hosts are the answer to all web hosting related problems. They are the service providers, who maintain a network of servers globally, and provide space for web sites on their servers in exchange for a payment, which is usually affordable.As mentioned earlier, servers, due to their bulky size and due to the heavy computational operations that they perform, have an endless appetite for power. They gulp up huge amount of electric power continuously. This has been a matter of concern, as every other industry is trying to cut their emission levels to combat the ever rising menace of global warming, directly in terms of smoke, air pollutants etc, and indirectly by either using renewable sources of energy to power up their operations or/and by reducing their power usage as electric power generation accounts as one of major reasons for global warming. There are many service providers in the market today who do not bother to contribute in such social issues. But all hope is not lost; as there are web hosts who have already started to make a notice of this issue and have started making contributions in their own ways. They have come up with innovative ideas such as powering up their servers using power generated from renewable sources such as, using solar panels wherever possible etc. We can also contribute in the fight against global warming by supporting service providers who choose greener operating techniques. Midlands Business Journal Quotes Thor Schrock on Green Technology

Written on: February 18th, 2009
The Midlands Business Journal ran a special technology section on the 13th and I was interviewed for the article on green technology. It was an opportune time for them to interview me on the subject because I was in the midst of replacing a ton of Schrock Innovations‘ outdated tech equipment with modern, more energy efficient gear. I was one of three local technology experts quoted in the article – Jason Black of MSI System Integrators, and the Vice President of IT from Creighton University, Brian Young also contributed They mostly quoted me about the energy and cost savings of replacing whatever CRTs you may still have with LCD flat panels.  I made the point that consumers won’t see much savings on their electrical bill but businesses with a number of monitors will definitely see a cost savings. Check out the article or subscribe today!

Milow – Ayo Technology
26. Februar
2009
Autor: Quotenblogger
Why are managers scared of technology?
Written by Rajesh Kumar on August 3, 2008 – 9:50 pm
I raise this question not because I feel that Managers should love technology. I raise this because Prahalad and Krishnan have convincingly established the centrality of the role of IT in an enterprise. They even recommend that the CEO should personally get involved in design of the core IT architecture of his enterprise. That begs the question - how many of today’s managers would consider the thought of getting involved with IT palatable? When I was B-School student, the guys who were somewhat shy of accounting and finance took refuge by opting for all marketing options. I was one of them. The assumption was that once into marketing, there are no great money related numbers to be seen and worried about - all we had to do was to churn out excellent branding collaterals. And how wrong those notions were! Speaking to any marketing or sales professional would corroborate that they deal in money related number crunching as the ‘core Fin’ guys. ‘Where’s the data?‘ and ‘What is the projected contribution?’ becomes key questions to plan and initiate any new marketing or sales activity. So in effect, we go back to the professor’s advice that Marketing guys need to be reasonably good in Finance too. Not just that, the best CEOs (and budding CEOs)are known to have excellent command of their company’s finances- don’t leave it to the CFO seems to be the mantra. That brings us to what Prahalad and Krishnan advise to the CEOs- don’t leave your enterprise’s tech DNA to the CIO alone- get involved yourself! That’s precisely my question - how can the managers get over their fear of technology around them. Even the most adventurous managers find it difficult to setup mail on their laptop , configure a printer, locate a mail or backup their phone contacts - why, how to even set-up a browser proxy!!  How can they lead their enterprise tomorrow when IT is supposed to the centerpiece of innovation of tomorrow’s corporation?!!! One gap that comes to my mind is at education level. Not many institutions force their students to integrate IT into their academics. Not too many of them even have the wherewithal of teaching a cost/benefit and risk evaluation of single instance ERP versus multiple instances. Nor to explain the benefit of grounds up application suitability to packages. The least they can help develop some code and language comfort. Facebook wouldn’t have emerged from Harvard otherwise. The second gap clearly appears at structured training programmes. The Management Trainees are rotated in Sales,HR, Finance, Marketing, sourcing etc, but generally  one does not come across companies where MTs are made to do an OS install - that’s the technicians job who sits in the corner room.  Nor are they expected to calculate the Airconditioning load of server rooms. Not to compute the ROI of a new IT initiative. This, despite them using IT driven products (personal technology items such as laptops, mobiles, corporate applications) all the time, it is not something that a manager should dirty is hand.It is an attitudinal thing. Would the next wave of business leaders break this mould? Not just because Prahalad and Krishnan expect them to do so, but because in my judgment, it appears such a natural thing. Would it happen though? Related link: Prahalad and Krishnan Bring IT Out of the Closet The New Age of Innovation: Driving Co-Created Value through Global Networks by C.K Prahalad and M.S. The Dispatch wrote Creativity, technology meet in organization’s first display Thursday, March 27, 2008 BY BILL MAYR They call it the Fuse Factory. Ideas go in; projects related to art and technology come out. An exhibit of technology- and science-based art Friday and Saturday will mark the debut of the Fuse Factory Electronic and Digital Arts Lab. Because the new organization doesn’t have a home, the exhibit will be shown at Rescentris, a company at Easton Town Center that develops software for life-science and health-care research organizations.
