No, Spending $20,000 on a Homemade iron Man Costume Doesn’t Seem Obnoxious At All
By Great White Snark | January 30, 2009
I don’t want to let the state of the economy get me down. So I do my best to scoff at it. But what begins with haughty laughter at the latest reports of financial doom usually ends with me crying into a bowl of generic-brand, Honey Nut Happy-O’s from CostCo. Norweigan John Kristiansen apparently feels no such pain. Or he’s inhaled a few too many fiberglass particles for his own good. As described in this article from Popular Mechanics, John and his buddies in “TMP” set a goal to build a homemade replica of the armor from the iron Man movie and complete the project before the flick hit theaters last summer. And $20,000 later, they discovered that gobs of money can, in fact, make dreams come true. Oh, and a little bit of talent for molding ABS plastic and fiberglass probably helped. But, whatever. Money is where it’s at, people. Cha-ching! Anyway, things went so well for the project (which you can track from its inception in the Replica Prop Forums) that Paramount hired John to promote the iron Man release in Europe. (YouTube link.) And just this week, John released photos of the first pieces of his newest costume replica project, the chrome-plated iron Man Mark II. Clearly, his feelings towards the economic crisis have evolved from “indifferent” to “completely oblivious.” Is Norway where money comes from or something? That would explain a lot, including why I’ve been having a hard time getting ahold of some. Enjoy this post? Subscribe to Great White Snark by email or by RSS.

Climbing Video: Ethan Pringle iron Resolution (V13) 2nd Ascent
Bouldering Climbing Videos
Back in 2003, a strange thing happened in Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. A massive rainstorm came through that caused a boulder to fall over from its perch between two other walls. The happenstance of this boulder falling over revealed the potential for a proud and difficult new boulder problem to be climbed.
It took a visit from Chris Sharma in early 2006 to unlock the difficult and scary sequence that resulted in iron Resolution (V13), and a few days later Ethan Pringle did the second ascent about which he blogged on Climbing.com:
This boulder (in the Barker Dam area that held two Tony Yaniro offwidths on either side) fell over after a prolonged rainstorm, like, four years ago and revealed an unbelievable wall that had been flush against another rock. (You can actually see a couple bolts on the underside of the boulder.) The angles on the wall are almost perfectly flat, which makes it really unique. I can easily say it’s the most incredible, beautiful and fun to climb problems (apart from a couple in the Buttermilks) I have ever done
Here is footage of Pringle sending iron Resolution with a nice cameo from Michael Reardon:

Ab 18. Geburtstag fit werden will.

Around the Well
), est une délicieuse balade folk éthérée longue de presque dix minutes, dont l’instrumentation sublime et complexe touche malgré tout instantanément. Envoûtant.

It’s Worth Dying For iron Man
Ceddy
on
May 01 2008 at 9:51 pm
*Updated*: OH SHIT! Some people in Facebook said that it’s a must to stay until the credit ends! SHIT!!!!!!!! I’ve missed that part! WHAT IS IT?!!! DID ANYBODY SEE IT?! TELL ME WHAT IT IS!!!
If you love Transformers (The Movie), then you are definitely gonna die for
iron Man
. Just came back from the show and my review about this show? Definitely
POSITIVE
! Everything… Just EVERYTHING looks so real, blame it on technology, and the storyline is simply fantastic! As for the actors, some people did ask things like, “
How come the main actor is so old?”
LOL
What is the story about? Ah well, typical superhero stories, kill the villains and prevail justice. That’s all! But what should be the main point is the non stop actions and of course, the super effects! Totally mind-blowing. And yes! The noise! Kreeek kraaaak Bang! Booooom Fyoooshhooom….. Yeah something like that. :P
The Nice People
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/iron Man
Tony Stark is a super intelligent dude who creates weapons and owns an industry which sells weapons, technically speaking he is the mass murderer because bad people do purchase his weapons to kill so after an incident (which I won’t explain why) he realized that he should stop creating weapons but instead, the ultimate weapon/armor for himself to save the world. In this movie you can basically see different versions of iron Man. From the hideous one to the one you see in the poster… Wow!
—
Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts
(Why is her name so weird?)
Pepper is the assistant of Tony Stark and she is secretly in love with him. Like any other movies, she is not a superhero and her task is to manage Tony Stark. She is one loyal assistant and without her, Tony wouldn’t survive that long and why is that? Go watch it yourself.
—
Terrence Howard as Jim Rhodes / War Machine
(War Machine is not revealed in the show)
Jim is Tony’s best friend and his role is not really important in the movie. If you’ve read the comics before, then you will know that War Machine is also one of a superhero alongside iron Man, Jim is supposed to wear that armor and save the world as iron Man’s sidekick but it’s not shown in this movie, probably on the sequel? Because there’s this scene which Jim looks at another armor and he says, “Next time babe”. I think the audience got a clue what’s gonna happen soon.
—
The Bad Ass
Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane / iron Monger
This bald ass is the main antagonist in the show and he wasn’t an evil until his ego starts haunting him and making him having the desire to become rich so in order to create a new weapon, he needs to get rid of his (supposedly) partner – Tony Stark. And this is when the fight begins.
—
There are other nice people and bad asses who are not really important in the movie so I thought it’s best that I skip them,
after all I can’t find their pictures anyway.
:P I think it’s very
brilliant
to premier the show before Labour’s Day because everyone would find the opportunity to watch this movie since it is heavily promoted!
Gurney Plaza was sooooo
crowded
on this day and it looks like everyone was dying to watch the show. Thank God we bought the ticket earlier before the premier day, thanks to
JJ
. Since yesterday my friends had complained to me that they weren’t able to buy the tickets. Poor thing… Just look at the crowd!
It’s not just crowded outside the cinema, some people (including myself) had to resort to parking my car OUTSIDE the plaza and had to walk a distance to the mall, and we spot this super parking style. That just shows how desperate some people can be. LOL
And we saw this funny notes left on someone’s car…
It says, “Friend, next time park a little behind. Thank You”. And I can definitely conclude that this is written by a CHINESE ! Ha ha ha ha ha…
Overall I was very satisfied with the show. Yet another great flick which
YOU MUST WATCH
in the cinema to experience the super awesome sound effects and the actions. :)

If you like what you read, you can subscribe to my feed and you'll be sure not to miss a single post! RSS feed . Thanks for visiting! I will eagerly admit that my cast iron tools in my kitchen are by far my favorites. You just cannot beat them for even heating, lasting durability, and reasonable cost! Cast iron isn’t the only thing I use…I do have stainless steel and even some non-stick in my cupboard…but given the choice I will usually reach for my cast iron above all else. Here’s why: A properly cared-for cast iron skillet will last for generations. Cooking with cast iron is toxin-free ! Cast iron pans are unbelievably inexpensive! Now…cooking with cast iron does take a little adjusting. For success, you need a properly seasoned pan and that is something that many people don’t understand. Cast iron is a porous surface. Making sure that your cast iron is properly seasoned will actually fill and smooth the surface of the pan. The more you use and season your cast iron skillet , the more non-stick the surface will become. How to season a cast iron pan: If the pan is new, completely remove any adhesive label. Wash, rinse and dry the pan. Grease the inside surface with a solid shortening. Grease it as you would a cake pan. Put your greased pan in a preheated 350°F oven for 1 hour. Remove, cool and store the pan. A skillet can be seasoned as often as necessary to maintain a good surface. Often you will notice that the surface of your skillet looks dry. When this happens, season it again before you put it away. Until your pan is very well seasoned (this will happen either by many uses or repeated seasonings) do not try to cook foods with a high acid content (tomatoes). High-acid foods will not react well to unseasoned cast-iron. Once your pan is well-seasoned you can use it for anything though! The most important thing to know is that it is not necessary to use any soap or detergent to clean your cast iron . Seasoned cast-iron pans can be cleaned with boiling water and a stiff-bristled brush. It is important to dry cast-iron pans completely after use. If you don’t do this adequately, they will rust. Cast iron pans will darken over time and with use. They will turn from a steely gray to dark gray or black. This is good! My cast iron pans are truly my best cooking friends in the kitchen! Old World Style Kitchens And Old World Charm
Posted by: in Accents, kitchens, tags: distressed, distressed walls, granite, kitchens, marble, metallic fixtures, mexican style kitchen, natural surfaces, old world kitchen, spanish style kitchen, wood cabinets
Quite often older homes have a certain flair and old world feel regardless of the style of home. If your house is a mid-century spanish style home, you may want to have an old world style kitchen to bring back the charm of years gone by. Here are some ideas of how you can create old world style kitchens even in modern homes. Old world kitchens typically have large cooking hearths and distressed walls. Cabinets had raised panel doors but they may have seemed mismatched. You might also find cabinets that have cracked. The cabinets will have dish and cup racks. This style of kitchen may be traced back to the years prior to seventeenth century Europe. Pewter or copper accents and mosaic tiles are also common in old world style kitchens. Expect to find deep, rich colors and panels that hide appliances. Stone walls and floors are also indicative of this style of kitchen. Think about the details when you’re renovating a kitchen in the old world style. You obviously won’t want a small kitchen with modern, stainless steel appliances as the focal point. This doesn’t mean you can’t have the modern conveniences; you just don’t want them to be visible. Natural surfaces are what you’re looking for. Wood and stone will be evident all over the kitchen. Wooden cabinets, elaborate wood trim, and even wooden paneled ceilings would help capture the old world style you’re looking for. Don’t forget about stone surfaces to complete the look. Stone tiles and slabs can be used for the counter tops, walls, or floors. Granite and marble can be used for cabinet tops or the floor. You can either have polished surfaces or distressed for a time-worn appearance. Metallic fixtures would be a great lighting choice in an old world style kitchen to finish off the look. Try to find wrought iron chandeliers or rustic tin wall sconces. These can be painted or left plain, but with a matte finish, so they appear to be antiques. Remember that you’re trying to give the impression that your kitchen was moved over from the old world and put into your home. If you have actual antiques that you can place in your kitchen that would make the room seem more authentic. If you have a hacienda or other spanish influenced house, an old world style kitchen might be the perfect choice for your home. You may want to consider this style of kitchen if you are planning to remodel. Malibu and Catalina Potteries Tile Door Surround
Posted by: THAT Painter Lady in Architecture, spanish wrought Iron, tags: catalina tile, malibu tile, tile door surround
We just bought, and will soon move into, a home which I *think* is hacienda style, even though it is located in Italy! I was looking for advice on how to snazzy-up the entrance wither with paint, or tile or mosaic.. or…? The front door definitely needs some definition and distinction. My instinct is to “drape” a mosaic over it. The house is near the sea, and I have previously made a mosaic of two dolphins, so I was wondering about re-making it but with the tails of the dolphins climbing around the sides of the door frame (only top 1/6th or so). But.. I’m too close to it, would it ruin the look? Here is the mosaic I’m talking about: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/pazzaglia/Mosaics/dolphin_kitchen_mosaic_close.jpg Another Idea, was maybe to to put some loud tiles around the edge? But how and in what combination? I don’t know, I definitely look forward to ideas, and I’m enjoying your websites very much! Thank you, Laura Hi Laura… It’s not low (one story) as most U.S. Hacienda style homes are. And the arched openings have a detail that is much like a California Mission style. What I noticed is the lack of color. Instead of the dolphin mosaic or anything so “artistic” I would suggest a more classic Malibu and Catalina Potteries tile door surround. Check out the tile style here: http://www.catalinaclassics.com/ http://www.calpot.com/index.html Related Articles: Paint A Door To Look Like Rustic Wood From A spanish Style Homes Dramatic Staircase In spanish Style Home spanish Style Homes History iron Balconies and Southwestern iron Work spanish Mexican Style Architecture Painted Ceiling

A Little Commodities History For Futures Traders
Commodities are the raw materials of our world, the natural resources we use to build the things we need and use. Throughout human history, man has exploited our world’s natural resources to improve the quality of human life. Futures traders trade principally in commodities (and in currencies, though that’s not the topic of today’s post). Futures markets allow commercial users to mitigate the risk of fluctuating commodity prices and provide a means for futures traders and investors to profit from those price risks. If you’re going to trade in commodities, you should know a little about them both practically and historically. Our global economy is built on three basic types of commodities, the principal players in the futures market:
Agricultural products.
We use agricultural products to feed and clothe ourselves.
Metals.
We use metals to build tools and weapons to improve our existence and protect ourselves.
Energy.
We use energy — coal, gas, oil, etc. — to warm our homes and power our factories.
The history of commodities parallels the history of mankind and development of civilization. Man’s survival and development are tied to his ability to harness natural resources. Throughout history, civilizations and nations have thrived or perished based on their ability to cultivate agricultural products, develop metals and harness energy. In fact, the early ages of man — the stone age, the bronze age, the iron age — are defined by man’s ability to utilize increasingly complex natural materials to make tools and weapons. Survival depended on man’s ability to process increasingly complex metals in order to compete against and/or trade with his neighbors.
Nations have been founded and civilizations destroyed over the control of natural resources. In 1524, Francisco Pizarro’s spanish conquistadors destroyed the entire Inca civilization in a vicious campaign to corner the South American gold market. In the late 1800’s, the British fought the bloody Boer War over control of South Africa’s gold and diamonds. The Persian Gulf War precipitated by Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait was essentially fought to stabilize global oil markets. Global economists and environmentalists predict that the world’s next great war will be fought over control of essential natural resources — water and arable land — made scare by the effects of global warming.
Throughout history, the fate and wealth of nations has been dictated by the presence and control of natural resources. This will not change and presents opportunities from which savvy futures traders can profit.

Where Do You Find Great Mexican Style Art for Your Hacienda Style Home?
Posted by:
THAT Painter Lady
in
Accents
Hacienda style homes can be filled with items purchased at local big box department stores. You will find metal candle sticks, painted pottery dishes and framed art available for a fairly reasonable price.
But… so can everyone else. It takes work to create unique spaces. Using colorful paint, designing interesting floors with tile and customizing the drapes are all ideas that can be used to jazz up our spaces a bit.
What about the artwork? What type of art do you want on your walls. Shouldn't you have things displayed that share your personality with others? Purchasing one of a kind art pieces does not have to be expensive. It just takes patience and a keen eye for design.
We were not disappointed with the shopping district in Rosarito, Baja, Mexico. Store after store are filled with custom iron, blown glass, talavera tile and my favorite… independent crafters.
We strayed of the main path and followed signs up the stairs to an out of the way shop. Mario Rodriquez met us at the door with a smile, a hearty greeting (in English) and then began instantly with a torrent of explanations about his work.
Here is a guy who uses the stuff that others are throwing away to make his craft. This town is filled with tile and pottery stores, which leads to a ton of breakage.
Every shop owner piles these shards of ceramic "junk" into a box and Mario makes a weekly trek to pick up his supply of "craft supplies". He takes these bits and pieces of color and works his magic making beautiful mosaics to sell in his little shop. He is so into the entrepreneurial spirit that he welcomes custom orders.
His business name is Baja's Mosaic Spot and he describes his wok as - "A very unique twist of mosaic art… anything your heart desires we will do!"
Of course… I had to purchase a few items, I mean a girl has to support the arts doesn't she?
The sun is cut out of wood with a jig saw, and painted with black acrylic paint.
The mosaic shards are grouted with cobalt blue grout and the sun face in the center is painted by hand.
This mask isn't as scary in life as it is in this photo. The base of the mask is a broken roof tile, which always has a hole to attach to the roof, thus leaving a great place for Mario to attach a hanger.
The colors are so vibrant and the use of black grout really sets them off. The pattern used for the eyes is actually a very common tile pattern found in Rosarito tile shops.
I had a wonderful shopping excursion in Rosarito, Baja, Mexico… can you tell?

In Mexican style homes, you expect to see a Mexican style bathroom. Quite often, however, the bathroom is not decorated at all. It is a blank slate waiting for the artist’s brush to splash color on its walls. This color helps to define a
bathroom Mexican style
.

The easiest way to begin to decorate the bathroom of a Mexican style house is to paint the walls a bold, bright color. Take a chance on a favorite color you never thought you could have used. The room is small enough that you could probably repaint it in a weekend, and that includes time for two coats of paint to dry. If the color is too bold, try a faux finish to tone it down a bit. You may want to paint the baseboards a contrasting color to give it some pop!
What do you do if you’re not ready to paint your walls? You can still add a Mexican feel to your bathroom by purchasing colorful towels in red, blue, yellow, red, or orange. Try to find a bath rug and curtains that incorporate the colors of your towels to tie the look together.
The Mexican bathroom floor normally is a glazed Mexican tiles, again in a bold color like terra cotta or cobalt blue. Many bathrooms in Mexican style houses use Saltillo tiles and create a tile rug. You would never use carpeting in the bathroom, but you may use an area rug as a bath mat.
Vanity Light Nutmeg
Although it might seem out of place,
wrought iron is often common in the bathroom
. Mexican style wrought iron vanities create weight in the room and give you an opportunity to use wrought iron elements in other ways in the bathroom.
A mirror framed in wrought iron would look great
Use wrought iron for the pull backs for the curtains.
Remember to use a design element in more than one way to get the most benefit.
For lighting in the bathroom,
A Mexican style wrought iron chandelier
would tie the look together. You can also go back to the rustic style that would match the bathroom fixtures.
Emily Dual Pillar Wall Sconce
Install a dimmer light and place pillar candles around the bathtub so you can relax in the bathtub.
Be careful to change out all bathroom fixtures if you change out any of them. You want to maintain a sense of consistency. Having a shiny silver faucet on the bathtub would look odd if your sink fixtures were changed to a dark, rustic style.
Your
bathroom, Mexican style
, may be the last room you need to conquer before you home is decorated just the way you want it. If you haven’t taken the time to decorate your bathroom, what are you waiting for? The effort will definitely be worth it!
