What Is The Definition of internet Marketing? In the past few years, everyone has been going on and on about marketing businesses and products online, but what exactly is the definition of internet marketing? Is it as simple as throwing up a website and emailing a few people about it? Well, yes and no. So far, the definition of what constitutes internet marketing isn’t really set, but there are some things people agree on. First, it’s not always necessary to have a website to do internet marketing. It’s very useful, yes, and you’ll get many more customers if you have one. However, you can send out emails, participate in message board discussions, and even join chat rooms to market your products and services without ever making a website. One aspect of internet marketing that doesn’t really work, despite what your email inbox might show, is spam. Well, spamming messages and emails, anyway (there are other types that are somewhat useful). Yes, emailing people about your products is a good marketing idea, but if the recipient doesn’t want to know about what you have to offer, he or she will simply mark your email as spam. Be sure the people you email actually want to get your emails before you send them. So what’s good spam, then? It really depends on how you look at it. One popular practice of getting your site out there is to read people’s blogs and post comments, then add your site link in either the name area or at the end of your post. Since you’re actually responding to what they say, it’s not exactly spamming. On the other hand, you’re writing a comment more or less just to get your site’s link on the blog, so it is spam in a way. Is spam even in the definition of internet marketing then? Again, it’s really hard to say. Certainly sending mass emails to people who don’t care about your service isn’t useful and a waste, but sometimes posting on message boards and blogs brings people to your site. Another dubious method of internet marketing lies with social networks like MySpace and Facebook. Starting a profile on these sites for your products or services can bring in hundreds of new customers since these sites have millions of people on them. However, adding people to your friends list just to get your name out there is, to some, more obnoxious spamming that isn’t welcome. What it all comes down to is that you want to get your name and website, if you have one, out to as many people online as you can, but you don’t want to be annoying about it. That’s where internet marketing is really different from offline marketing. Flyers, billboards, and ads in newspapers are much more easily ignored than popup ads, spam emails, and hundreds of friend requests on MySpace. Basically, when it comes to online marketing, a good rule to remember is that if you wouldn’t want to see it, don’t send or post it. If you’re selling pet related products, for example, you probably shouldn’t send a friend request to someone who says they don’t like animals. All in all, “don’t spam” seems to be perhaps the best definition of internet marketing out there.

Here is the basic information that you need to know when you want to learn how to write an article for internet marketing: 1 – The first thing to know is that article marketing has numerous objectives. The first is to generate keyword driven content that relates to your niche. The second is to create a link back to your website that search engines and potential visitors can follow. The third objective is simply to get your name out there as an authority on whatever subject you are trying to sell. All three of these objectives are important and should be considered when writing an internet marketing article. 2 – internet marketing articles can range significantly in word count, but readers tend to prefer articles between 450 and 750 words. Your article should use friendly and easy to read language, small paragraphs and headers to break up the text whenever possible. 3 – Your article should focus on a topic relating to your website, and it should primary intend to inform potential readers. If the people who read your article feel like you know what you are talking about, they will travel through your link to your website to learn more information on the topic. 4 – If you really do understand your niche or product, writing about it should not be difficult. If you still need assistance, consider contacting a professional copywriter to help you put your article marketing content together. The product or service providers that have not learned the New Rules of marketing and PR will ultimately fail at generating new business online. Interruption marketing is out of style. Loan officers looking to buy stuff are motivated by social proof, interaction, and choice. Social networking communities have empowered us with the ability to avoid your squeeze pages and privileged access to proprietary information. Integrity is measured through transparency and everything is challenged. To have an effective internet marketing strategy that connects with, builds trust, and converts your target audience into actual paying clients, there are several things you should pay attention to: Define your target audience, know their needs, and learn how they search for solutions Analyze your Google-ability, key search phrases, and internet exposure Be aware of your competition online Search Engine Optimization Social Network Optimization Search Engine Marketing Profiles in high traffic industry social networks and forums Link building and participating in hundreds of online conversations Press releases and article writing Frequent blog articles Managing your online reputation Strategic exposure in vertical search engines Politics and co-marketing Online ethics Building relationships with industry thought leaders Permission Marketing Podcasts Twitter The moral of the story - The rules have changed and you need to make a commitment now to take responsibility for your company’s online reputation. It was honestly a little weird event for me: A lot of top speakers, but the hotel did not offer any WiFi and for internet addicts Web Workers like me, this is a little bit of a pain. Especially when the Blackberry starts crashing at the same time. Anyways…enough complaints. The sessions were pretty good. A lot of innovation from different companies. A lot of presenters were from Sweden and besides their typical Scandinavian coldness ( After receiving and email I am adding this Disclaimer: This is not a racist statement. I am German and I am as cold as a German can be. My humor is also really cold…., but seriously who cares?.) , there products were pretty cool. Here a few companies that I really liked: Alan, the CEO from Blogtalkradio showed his interesting site that took off over the past year, but did not get too much coverage. Blogtalkradio is a social network around radio. It let’s you record all your conversations or just interviews and publish them on the web. Currently there are 90 shows and more than 3 Million listeners per month. Squace, a free mobile web application that lets you surf the web without typing. It looked pretty cook, but I haven’t tested it yet. So…no more comments on that. Next speaker was Ola, VP or marketing for TAT. Ola really had a great presentation and gave some outlook on what’s next in mobile: Haptic output by 2009. Natural Output / Morphing devices by 20220 (Intelligent). Very Interesting ideas and a Powerpoint to remember. One of my favorite apps out there, was an app called MizPee. MizPee finds the closest, cleanest toilets in your area. You can add and review toilets, get some cool deals in your area and challenge your knowledge of toilet trivial. An application that is incredible useful. Especially in cities like New York, where Starbucks sells one Latte per 23 toilet flushes. Building an Online Business Empire, Part 0 of 10

Okay, you’re here because you want to learn how to build a profitable business. But what kind of business? We’ll get into that in Part 1. BACKGROUND I’m not sure whether this will be 2 parts, 10 parts, or 100 parts, or something else. I could write an entire book, maybe even a series of books on how to start and run an online business (hey, there’s an idea!); obviously, there are a lot of folks around who have already done so. And, of course, many more books will be written to address the challenge. For now, I’ll stick with 10 parts. It’s a nice round number and I can probably both divide all I know into ten solid parts and fully flesh each one out. I will try to lay out a system whereby you can build a business from the ground up into a thriving, cash-pulling empire. That’s the goal. Much of what you will read here will be what I’ve done in the past and what I will continue to do in the future to build my own online empire. I am certainly not there yet. But the goal is to build a publishing juggernaut that pulls in profits hand over fist with very little day-to-day labor by me (I’m light years away from that stage!). And there will be a lot of “let’s try this” type stuff, too — things I haven’t tried but have on good advice that they work, or things I haven’t tried but I got a hair-brained scheme to try it out. That’s the background. ONLINE BUSINESS METHODS There are countless business types on which to build your empire. You can use one or more, of course. By types, I am referring to monetization methods like AdSense and other advertising, Private Label Rights creation and/or publishing, creating your own products to sell, membership sites, and affiliate marketing (selling other people’s products and services). Throughout this series, I’ll point out the various business types: Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. That’s the MBA-speak version. What that really means is this: The pros and cons or benefits and drawbacks. Used in the right circumstances, any business method can work wonders. In other words, all methods can play an integral role on bringing you the cash and profits you seek. But, again, more on that in Part 2. OVERVIEW OF WHAT’S TO COME There are many things you need to think about and consider when setting up your business, no matter what type of business you finally embrace (and HINT: You will want to employ more than one, eventually, but I suggest you start out with one and only one). All that said, here’s a grab bag of the ingredients you’ll need to bake your online empire cake. Business method. Pick and choose: PLR, product creation, affiliate marketing, or advertising. There are more, but these are the big ones. Do your research. Pick a niche or market, brainstorm keywords and topics. Think about how you’ll make money doing whatever it is you decide to do. Choose a domain and web host. There are many domain registrars and hosts. I’ll make recommendations on whom to choose, but we’ll first describe what all this means. Website. Choose what kind of website, be it a “standard” HTML website or a blog. I suggest you start out with a WordPress blog because you can find many themes and plugins for free that you can use in your site that will either enhance the user experience, make Search Engine Optimization a no-brainer (relatively speaking), or make content management super-simple. Add content. The best content is the content that you contribute, but you can also get guest writers and syndicated content. This can be beneficial in the beginning because you can load up your site with a lot of content before you go live. Generate traffic. All other things equal, a website with 500 daily visitors will be more profitable than one with only 50 visitors. It’s a numbers game, just like dating. Of course, all other things are NEVER equal, so take this one with a grain of salt. However, you still need to drive potential customers to your offering by way of your website. We’ll talk about how to do that here. There are dozens of ways to drive traffic to your site, most of which will require their own sub-parts to explain in full. Convert visitors to buyers. There are TONS of ways to do this. We’ll most likely have to split some of the conversion tactics into separate sub-pieces because each one needs some explanation. Convert one-time buyers into multiple-time buyers. It’s easier than you think. Convert buyers into affiliates. Get other people to drive business to your website. In short, start an affiliate program. Your business could scale bigger and faster than you ever imagined. I’ll show you how here. Rinse, repeat, and build it out. Some folks build a product, set up a website, and then move to another product. Or they do all that and then sell it (in internet parlance, they “flip it”). Yet others go on to build “authority sites.” Still others keep on cranking out the products and add to their online portfolio. They all work. We’ll talk here about the pros, cons, and how to do it. Building an Online Business Empire, Part 0 of 10

Okay, you’re here because you want to learn how to build a profitable business. But what kind of business? We’ll get into that in Part 1. BACKGROUND I’m not sure whether this will be 2 parts, 10 parts, or 100 parts, or something else. I could write an entire book, maybe even a series of books on how to start and run an online business (hey, there’s an idea!); obviously, there are a lot of folks around who have already done so. And, of course, many more books will be written to address the challenge. For now, I’ll stick with 10 parts. It’s a nice round number and I can probably both divide all I know into ten solid parts and fully flesh each one out. I will try to lay out a system whereby you can build a business from the ground up into a thriving, cash-pulling empire. That’s the goal. Much of what you will read here will be what I’ve done in the past and what I will continue to do in the future to build my own online empire. I am certainly not there yet. But the goal is to build a publishing juggernaut that pulls in profits hand over fist with very little day-to-day labor by me (I’m light years away from that stage!). Building an Online Business Empire, Part 1 of 10 — Choosing a Business Method

In Part 0, we laid the foundation for building an online business empire; basically, we talked about what we’re going to talk about. Now, onto the “real work.” The first thing you have to decide on is “What is my business going to be?” Some things to consider: What am I good at? Do I have any special talents? What do I like to do? Can I learn what I don’t know already? Can I work without a boss? Can I really work from home, in my pajamas? I mean, really work hard? Is there enough material in me to make my own products? Do I have industry connections that will ease my transition into whatever market I wish to enter? Can I get help? How much in liquid assets can I avail myself of? Meaning, how long can I go without making any money before I have to get a “real job?” Do I have the support of my spouse or significant other? Many of these “issues” can be alleviated simply by starting out “part time.” Keep your day job and build your business every other waking, non-family hour. Let’s get to the real meat of this, then. What type of business should I start? There are a few excellent choices to start with. Sell other people’s products. Known as “affiliate marketing,” this is one of the easiest businesses to get into. And it can be very lucrative. Many affiliate programs pay 50, 75, or even 100 percent commissions (they hope to sell the buyer on “back-end” products after you sell them the first product). It’s not hard to imagine how selling a $100 product with a 75 percent commission can add up! Sell 3 a day, $225! Or, over $6000 a month. All of these sales, too, by the way, are done fairly passively, meaning you don’t have to call anybody or continually sell. Once you set up a sales process, you’re on auto-pilot? Create your own products. You have specialized knowledge that other people don’t have yet they seek it. You might be the parent of a “special needs” child, or you may have run the marketing operation of a small advertising agency. You might know how to train animals or have a special talent for baking cakes. Explore your experiences over the course of your lifetime and you’ll come up with dozens of product ideas for which you can create your own products. Then, you can build your own affiliate army and have other people sell your wares. This one is a hybrid of the two above, of sorts. Private Label Rights (PLR) materials are materials that you get (either free or you pay for them), modify to suit your tastes and – more importantly — the tastes of your potential customers, and sell. In effect, you’re selling other people’s products (as in affiliate marketing), but you’re changing them up (sort of like creating your own product), but after the initial outlay of labor and/or money, you keep all of the profits. I have a really good course on starting and running your own PLR business called internet Millions. On the flipside of buying or acquiring PLR materials, why not create them? You sell your PLR to people who need well-written material. You don’t have to worry much about marketing, setting up niche websites, the sales process, and the like. You sell to the dozens of very good PLR membership sites that exist; they’re always looking for good material (and trust me, there is a lot more crap writing out there than good). Membership sites. This is where you serve up content but for a price. It’s a great business model IF you have a lot of content because you receive regular monthly payments, rather than a one-time payment for a product you sell. However, I think a membership site is something you work into your business plan after you’ve established a profitable business. There’s always eBay and Amazon. If you have physical products like books, gadgets, or other “hard goods,” these two sites are ripe for building a business. Advertising. There are a lot of notable blogs that make a considerable 5 or even 6 figure monthly income based on serving up ads on your own site for other people. Google’s AdSense is the big player on campus, but there are others, most notably yahoo and Microsoft. Of course, you can (and I encourage you to) marry more than one of these methods into your business plan. I would suggest that you start with no more than 2, however. My choices would be PLR and/or affiliate marketing PLUS AdSense. I would spend very little time on AdSense, and my thinking goes like this. AdSense will serve your visitors with ads that could actually help them, but they can also hinder your sales. For example, let’s say you’re promoting (”affiliate marketing”) a product that promises to solve a particular snoring problem. On your website, you write a post or page that talks about the negative health effects of snoring and you conclude with a link to the product you’re promoting (or “pre-selling”). If you have an AdSense ad on that page, it is very likely that the ad will be about snoring and how to stop it (in fact, this is exactly how the ads are supposed to work — they aren’t called “contextual” for nothing). So instead of leading your reader to the sales page of the product you want to sell, you have sent them to a competitor. Not good. Use sparingly. I suggest you place contextual ads only on pages your are not selling from. Seriously. So there you have it — a few very good methods to get your online business empire going. However, I think a membership site is something you work into your business plan after you’ve established a profitable business. There’s always eBay and Amazon. If you have physical products like books, gadgets, or other “hard goods,” these two sites are ripe for building a business. Advertising. There are a lot of notable blogs that make a considerable 5 or even 6 figure monthly income based on serving up ads on your own site for other people. Google’s AdSense is the big player on campus, but there are others, most notably yahoo and Microsoft. Of course, you can (and I encourage you to) marry more than one of these methods into your business plan. I would suggest that you start with no more than 2, however. My choices would be PLR and/or affiliate marketing PLUS AdSense. I would spend very little time on AdSense, and my thinking goes like this. AdSense will serve your visitors with ads that could actually help them, but they can also hinder your sales. For example, let’s say you’re promoting (”affiliate marketing”) a product that promises to solve a particular snoring problem. On your website, you write a post or page that talks about the negative health effects of snoring and you conclude with a link to the product you’re promoting (or “pre-selling”). If you have an AdSense ad on that page, it is very likely that the ad will be about snoring and how to stop it (in fact, this is exactly how the ads are supposed to work — they aren’t called “contextual” for nothing). So instead of leading your reader to the sales page of the product you want to sell, you have sent them to a competitor. Not good. Use sparingly. I suggest you place contextual ads only on pages your are not selling from. Seriously. So there you have it — a few very good methods to get your online business empire going. The past few days have been so exciting for me. I am hoping to report back in sometime next monday with some exciting earning news. Stay tuned because it is top secret! I also posted and hired my first Odesk job. I really hope things go smoothly with it. You can find some really amazing deals on there. Meanwhile, I am working on getting my things together and packed for a family trip to Yosimite! I celebrated my 33rd birthday on the 24th and so this next weekend we will be celebrating it with my family and some family friends. We are spending the night in a home my parents rented near a beautiful lake just outside Yosimite. I’ll be gone friday until monday evening so I won’t be updating, or even working on my business! make sure you follow me on twitter and perhaps I will twitter if I have a signal. Oh gosh so excited! My Dragon naturally Speaking hasn’t arrived yet and I really hope it does before I leave. I would hate to have it left out on my porch while I am gone.

For instance, in athletic shoes alone, you will be able to count more than ten competitors. In the airline industry, there exist more than ten competitors in providing air travel services for travelers both inside and outside the United States. How will you distinguish one competitor from another competitor? That is where branding comes into action. In fact, this is one of the important yet unappreciated aspects of internet marketing. Before you will be able to understand the goal of branding on internet marketing, let us first discuss the branding on traditional conduct of business. It is an advertising method that is used to identify the products or services of a seller or a group of sellers and differentiate it from those of other sellers offering the same products or services. Establishing a brand for your own products or services will help you achieve the following: • Deliver the message clearly to the public about your intention of marketing your products or services; • Confirm your credibility as an independent and reputable seller; • Motivates your buyer to patronize your products or services; and • Build a concrete and loyal clientele base. In other words, the goal of branding is to give your products or services its own identity apart from other sellers offering the same products or services. You will only succeed in the investment you are into if you have established yourself as an independent and reputable seller through branding. What are the consequences of branding in your investment? • The brand of your products or services will rest with the hearts and minds of your clients and potential customers. This will influence the way they patronize your products or services that may even result in the expansion of your clientele base. • It is what the people will remember about you. For instance, you have branded your pet products as “Pet Lovers”. Once the brand is consistently patronized by the people, you will be able to achieve success and your products will certainly have an edge over unbranded products. As previously mentioned, branding is one of the most important yet the most unappreciated aspects of internet marketing, particularly in terms of web advertising. Since most advertising programs are focused on click-through rates (since it is the basis of earning through online-based affiliate programs), internet marketers often neglect the important of branding in terms of internet marketing. This is relatively unfortunate since the success of internet marketing is also dependent on branding awareness. In other words, branding is essential in promoting the brand of the product or services of the affiliate. Without branding, there is no sense that the product or services you are endorsing will be popular to your clients. Keep in mind that your goal here is to earn money and not to lose any penny. Thus, it would be better if you will invest on branding-based internet marketing. It is easy to promote products and services that are already well-known to the public rather than unbranded ones. However, you can also help building brand awareness of not well-known products or services that will help a lot in making your online advertising successful. Here are some of the strategies that you can use: 1. You may think of a brand name that will suit to the products or services of your clients. Such brand name must not be too formal yet too lousy to the eyes and ears of your clients. You may include interesting words that will produce the needed “twist” to the name of the product or service. 2. Since a brand is an intellectual property, you need to check with the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) if the brand name is already taken by someone else. Once the selected brand name is still available, you will be able to apply for the registered patent of that brand name. 3. Once the patent has been approved, you need to consistently advertise the name so that it will gain popularity among potential clients. You may also suggest to the merchants that the brand name needs to be advertised through various affiliate programs over the net for more visibility. Branding must not be taken for granted. I believe that Seth Godin is a marketing genius and has as good an idea as anyone about how marketing and making money are evolving. I’ve been paying attention to most of what he has been saying for a few years and I’ve learned a lot in the process. Today, on his blog, he writes: Make money: not by building an internet company, but by using the net as a tool to create value and get paid. Use the internet as a tool, not as an end. Do it when you are part of a big organization or do it as a soloist. The dramatic leverage of the net more than overcomes the downs of the current economy. The essence is this: connect. Then he goes on to explain 10 ways to connect the disconnected. Obviously, it’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s a good springboard for thinking about how you can add value by helping people make connections. You have been busy working for many months on a internet marketing product that you are certain will be a surefire success. You have carefully tested it out and it looks just great. All you have to do now is launch it to your target market and sit back while hordes of eager customers come stampeding onto your website to buy it. After all, it is a great product so why shouldn’t you be so confident? But then disaster strikes. Nobody buys your fantastic product even though you know it’s the best. What’s even worse they buy a competitors product instead, which you know for a fact is not a patch on yours. Really frustrating after all the hard work and time you put into it. So what was it that made people decide to buy an inferior product from the competition instead of you? Is it because they are uninformed or just plain stupid? Or was it the sales pitch that convinced them to buy an inferior product? There are many things that motivate people to choose one product instead of another. They will buy it even it is clearly not the better of the two and not even the best value for money. People are mentally wired to respond to certain emotional cues. When the triggers for these emotions are triggered through marketing campaigns or other efforts, people will act. They buy because: They have real needs – People buy products and services to fulfill real needs such as food, shelter, clothing and the basic requirements of life. They have perceived needs – Some products appeal to people by targeting their perceived needs. They push their emotional buttons and make them believe they cannot manage without the product in their homes or offices. They have wants and desires – Buyers are also highly influenced by products that appeal to their personal desires. When product A offers good value and quality but product B satisfies a deep desire, in many cases they will choose product B over product A. For many internet marketing products in general most people buy because they think they will show them: How to make lots of money – to ease their financial troubles or get them the things they desire most. In the shortest time possible – because most people are impatient. With the least amount of work – because most people hate hard work. So if an internet marketing product offers them the opportunity to get more money with which to have a better life and more time to enjoy it then to them it is just what they need – and who can blame them? If you can’t convince them that your product will do all this for them they will find one that does, or at least promises to. That is why so many people fall for the get-rich-quick type of products because they promise all this. Overcoming the logical mind of your potential customer and appealing to their emotions is just one of the tools used by marketing experts. They have many techniques that will make a poor or average product into an incredible seller. What is it with internet marketing product launches nowadays? Every time a promo email for the latest product launch hits our inbox and we hastily head on over to the sales page (via the affiliate link of course) to see what the fuss is all about we are confronted with…nothing. It’s becoming a regular occurrence that the servers have once again crashed under the strain of hordes of would-be buyers eager to run their credit card debt up even farther. If these internet marketing gurus are so far ahead of the game why can’t they get their product launches right? I know it’s probably easier said than done but the so-called experts should have learned a thing or two by now, surely? To be honest the promo emails are starting to wear a little thin just lately as well. For many, the initial excitement and novelty of internet marketing has worn off and they are getting a little bored with all the hyped-up emails flooding into their inbox, including me. The strange thing is that some of the bonuses offered by JV partners are often better than the product they are promoting. In fact, I suspect that lots of us buy the newly launched product more for the bonus offered by the affiliate than the product itself. Makes you wonder if the internet marketing product they are promoting is that good after all, doesn’t it? Sadly, for some people buying internet marketing products has become something of an addiction. And there’s lots of money to be made from all the desperate buyers out there who need their latest product fix. Many don’t even use the IM products either; they just buy them because it makes them feel like they are doing something. It reminds me of the gambling phrase ‘going on tilt’ where a losing gambler tries to win back the money they have already lost by becoming more reckless with their bets. They have wasted so much money already that they think just one more purchase might do the trick. It rarely does. Share and Enjoy:
