The turtles and I were doing our daily check through Twitter when we saw this post from Nicole Dean – Twitter Followers: Wear them on a t-shirt ?. It is where we found the site to create our Twitter mosaic above. Check the site out, create your mosaic and look to the left side. It will become clear shortly. The point of the post though is what really interested me. (The turtles don’t have any curiosity for anything other than what is under the next rock so you are stuck with what attracts my attention.) She was talking about taking advantage of your own creativity and combining that with what is hot. The people that created Twitter Mosaic got it. They will sell me a t-shirt, a mug or other items where I can get all of my followers added to it. How many things do you see every day that you could come up with a twist like that? That is one of the keys to finding profitable niches and ultimately creating your own product for that niche. See the Niche Affiliate System will show you a step by step way to test for profitability and start to build the relationships in any niche. The key though is to add your own creativity and take advantage of your unique perspective to create a truly profitable product. Hope you are enjoying the holiday week end. Top Four Causes of Hedge Fund Collapses
7 August 2008
2 Comments
From Long Term Capital Management to Amaranth, dramatic collapses of large hedge funds have occurred throughout the history of hedge funds. In general, hedge fund blow ups result from a similar series of events and financial elements. 1. Improbable Market Events First, there is normally an improbable market event that effects the specific central investment or trading strategy of the hedge fund. For example, the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis contributed to the failure of Long Term Capital as widening spreads caused relative value trades to fail. Hedge funds frequently engage in this type of relative value trade or other forms of arbitrage, such as capital structure arbitrage, that center on profiting as spreads return to theoretically normal levels. The failure of these types of relative value trades also contributed to the blow up of Sowood Capital Management. 2. Leverage The second factor that causes hedge fund failures is leverage. To enhance returns, hedge funds frequently employ leverage. Hedge funds acquire leverage by borrowing money from counterparties, frequently investment bank prime brokers. Hedge funds post a small amount of margin to purchase securities, using the investment as collateral. During a hedge fund blow up this use of leverage has two negative effects. First, if margin terms between the broker and hedge fund are not locked, brokers can modify the hedge fund’s margin requirements. This is problematic, because during a hedge fund implosion and chaotic market, brokers may reevaluate the riskiness of the hedge fund’s assets and thus demand a higher margin haircut. Second, as the hedge fund’s portfolio falls quickly in value, margin calls occur. The broker demands additional collateral to reduce the broker’s risk to the falling asset value. When a hedge fund’s portfolio quickly falls in value the results of the negative impact of leverage cripple the hedge fund. To meet margin calls and higher collateral requirements, hedge funds normally first burn through excess cash. As the investments fall further, the hedge fund normally sells the most liquid investments. However, by selling liquid investments, the portfolio becomes more illiquid, and thus more risky from the broker’s viewpoint. This causes the broker to demand even more collateral, and the downward spiral to the ultimate collapse continues. 3. Investor Redemptions Investor redemptions  contribute to hedge fund blow ups. If investors withdraw money from a hedge fund that has little cash, the hedge fund is forced to liquidate positions, causing a downward spiral similar to events resulting from margin calls. However, many hedge funds have long lock ups that prohibit investors from withdrawing money. Also hedge funds normally have significant early redemption penalties. 4. Forced Liquidation or Portfolio Sale Ultimately, a failing hedge fund normally faces one of two options. First, the portfolio may be liquidated by brokers to cover margin requirements. Second, hedge funds frequently sell the entire portfolio to other large hedge funds or investment firms. For example, Sowood sold the portfolio to Citadel to avoid a forced liquidation by brokers. Citadel, a large liquid hedge fund, was able to absorb the risk of Sowood’s portfolio and ultimately profit as spreads on relative value trades and capital structure arbitrage began to return to equilibrium. Hedge fund collapses begin when an unusual market event causes the portfolio to quickly fall in value. As margin calls and investor redemptions increase, the hedge fund is forced to either liquidate the portfolio or be acquired by another firm. Organized crime, too, appears to be tapping into this mother of all money-laundering machines. CNN featured this article on the subject matter. Could this be the opening shot of an orchestrated push by governments to break the funds’ stranglehold on energy supplies? Baltimore — ( TFN ): Attorney general Michael Mukasey warned Wednesday that organized criminal networks have penetrated portions of the international energy market and tried to control energy resources. In a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, he said similar efforts have targeted the international financial system by injecting billions of illicit funds to try to corrupt financial service providers. Mukasey then vowed to beef up U.S. efforts to fight international organized crime, which he called a growing threat to U.S. security and stability. Where were the kids? Where the heck was Emma ? Spike’s half-sister? Where was Little A ? Where was Kathy/Kate ? I mean it was a kids party, but the only kids present were Spike and Ian . With everything that’s going on with the adults, you’d think the writers would get it in their minds that “ hmmmm, maybe the kids in Pine Valley need some distraction. Let’s take them all to Spike’s birthday party ?’ Are any of them parents at all? It was supposed to be a kids part but it turned out to be about adults whining about their lives. Annie watching Greenlee’s every move . Telling her to forgive  Aidan. It’s easy for anyone outside to tell Greenlee to forgive her fiance and BFF for sleeping together but if you look in the mirror and ask yourself, could you do the same? I thought so. Then there was Kendall, watching Greenlee’s every move . She’s waiting to be pounced on..LOL. Zach on her behind telling her to stop being freaking paranoid. Then there was Ryan, avoiding closeness with Annie, at all costs. Geez, what happened to pin the tail on the donkey?, musical chairs? a pinata?. You know, fun stuff at a kids party. Why?  Because you cannot control who your neighbors are.  So how can you stand out from them?  Simple.  Before you do anything online, develop an SEO Strategy.  Before you even register a domain name.  Before you even bother to think about functionality.  Before you even dare think of design.  Before you even install osCommerce. Think “how is anyone going to find me?”.  Think “how will I stand out in the search engine results?”. Once you know that, then worry about the rest.  Because it’s all  driven by your SEO Strategy.  If you don’t have one, get one. 2 Comments »

My general Approach « Straight from the Farm
http://straightfromthefarm.net/2007/06/12/cooking-advice/
Straight from the Farm Home Recipe Index The Cook The Garden & Farm My General Approach June 12, 2007 It dawned on me just now that perhaps I should let the world (i.e., those of you who have been so kind as to visit my fledgling blog) know how I generally approach cooking.  After all, if you’re going to trust my recipes, you’d best be aware of my quirks.  So, what follows is neither a compulsory nor a comprehensive list:  -   Nutmeg makes everything better. And when I say everything, I mean everything . - I don’t use conventional eggs.  That kind you get in the pour carton is all I ever use.  Real eggs kinda gross me out. - My micro plane will be buried with me.  I love it that much. - One should always have a fresh lemon in the house.   - Never put tomatoes in the fridge (if they’re going ripe too fast, roast them and put them in tupperware for the next pasta dish you make).   - I don’t measure salt in recipes.  The pinch-n-dash system hasn’t failed me yet. - It was a hard lesson for me to learn but ALWAYS finish all chopping before firing up the stove.  Everything comes out so much better when I’m not scrambling to finish dicing the onion. - I’m not really passionate about cooking.  But I am passionate about fresh ingredients. My true love is baking but it doesn’t really use many fresh ingredients or else this would be a blog about baking instead of cooking. - I really prefer a tiny kitchen to a large one. It’s much more efficient to have your cutting board, sink and stove all within three feet of each other, ya know? - There’s usually some style of accordion music playing in my kitchen, either tango or french.  Can’t really explain why… - I rather abhor the microwave. Give me a gas stove top any day. But I do love that new-fangled zapping machine for making microwave potato chips . Entry Filed under: Extra Credit . . 4 Comments Add your own

Sendusout Our unconditional pursuit of god’s mission Home Posts Photos Links Support About Us Contact Alabaster Video Hiligaynon Audio Bible Project The Ornament Tree June 26th, 2008 4 Comments Published by Melissa in Art, Life In General, Photos My art professor in college always said that bigger is better. She would look at our tiny canvases and tell us they were too small and give us examples of abstract expressionists like Robert Motherwell and Helen Frankenthaler to emulate. Unfortunately in college I could not afford it, the paint or the canvas. She should have given me a wall and a can of latex instead. Dr. Mary would be proud of me now. I have an 8 foot by 13 foot canvas of concrete and I didn’t have to nail, staple or stretch anything. I like it this way. The only problem is transporting it once we move. As you can see, I am painting a tree. Elanor dubbed it the “Ornament” Tree because of all the circles I have yet to paint, but are on my little drawing I did before I started. I began work on May 6 and the mural is still very much a work in progress after nearly a month and half. This photo was taken Saturday after I decided the background needed to go beyond flat yellow. Slowly but surely, I’ll get it finished and I’ll keep you updated on my progress. If you want to see photos from the beginning, you can check out my album on Facebook. 4 Comments

Sendusout Our unconditional pursuit of god’s mission Home Posts Photos Links Support About Us Contact How to Talk to Strangers Himig A Brief Respite March 24th, 2009 2 Comments Published by Daniel in Life In General, Photos, The Philippines, Travel One thing I have often read about blogging is that you should never make excuses for your lack of writing. It always sounds so sad to read a post where someone is apologizing for not having written in ages because they have been busy or sick or whatever. So I’m not doing that. That’s not what this opening paragraph is all about. Last weekend, during Isaiah’s spring break, we were able to take a wonderful trip up north. Our wonderful friend, Liz Hollenberg, is wrapping up a 6 month volunteer position with WMC-AP and so we had lots of motivation to explore one of the most stunning places on earth; the Banaue Rice Terraces. The rice terraces are often considered as a contender for the title of 8th Wonder of the World. I would have to agree. This amazing irrigation system was built over 2,000 years ago and covers over 4,000 square miles of rough mountains. The magnitude of it all is breath taking. The terraces are still farmed today, yet many factors are threatening their existence. The rice that grows here is a slow growing crop and takes a lot of work. Rice grown at the base of the mountains yields 3x the crop and can be farmed with machinery; however,  the biggest threat seems to be modernization. Most young people from the Ifugao tribe would rather get computer jobs in the city to support their families. The fact remains that this place, and the way of life for many of it’s inhabitants, is little changed from what it was like in the past.  These people seem to relish in the beauty around them and take life as it comes, day-by-day. We had a great time driving around the area, taking pictures, going on short exploratory hikes, taking more pictures, buying a few souvenirs, and taking even more pictures. There were lots of opportunities for hiking into some areas that are more stunning still, but they kids were happy not to be forced into a three hour march along the terrace walls. During our trip, we stayed at the SIL guest house in Bagabag, about 45km south of Banaue. This was another treat. The mission compound at Bagabag is beautiful and the kids especially were thrilled that they had a swimming pool and trampoline. If they had their way, they would have jumped and swam the entire vacation. For us, it was a treat just being in the country side and exchanging the smells of diesel fuel for flowers and trees and the sounds of car horns for birds and the wind rustling leaves. We had a wonderful trip and would highly recommend the drive for any living in Luzon. With the new highways out of Manila we were surprised that it was a short half-day drive. Take a break and refuel in the midst of God’s amazing creation. We do have more pictures in a Facebook Gallery, so check them out. 2 Comments

Sendusout Our unconditional pursuit of god’s mission Home Posts Photos Links Support About Us Contact Summer Recap – In Photos Compassion As Lifestyle Back to School, Back to Work August 6th, 2009 1 Comment Published by Melissa in Family, Life In General We have been in the Philippines for one week now and we are happy to be getting back into the swing of things. Daniel received a special welcome home from his office mates that involved 16 rolls of toilet paper strewn about his office.  He is excited about a new project World Mission Communications is doing in Singapore this week, creating a short film on compassion as a lifestyle. He also taught his first class of Print Media and Design on Monday for APNTS. He has 15 students in this class learning the basics of visual design and gaining a working knowledge of the printing process.  This is an important tool for students to use in their ministries when they need print materials for such things as events or conferences. I have also been busy this week bringing our home and our lives back in order after living on the road and out of suitcases for 8 weeks.  We had a wonderful time visiting with family and friends in the States, but it is also nice to be back to a regular routine again.  I am excited to be co-teaching a preschool with Debs Taylor, a missionary from England, again this year.  Last year we held the preschool in our homes; however, we are happy to have the use of a classroom at Faith Academy this year.  Debs and I have been busy sorting out the details, setting up the classroom and planning our first theme, “God Made Me”.  Elanor is also looking forward to preschool starting next Tuesday for she is now four and old enough to join the “big kids”. Today marked the first day of school for Ian and Isaiah at Faith Academy. (Faith Academy is a private school taught by missionaries for mostly missionary kids and we are lucky that it is only 15 minutes from our home!) Isaiah will be in second grade this year and Ian well be starting Kindergarten.  He thinks it is very cool to be going to school like his big brother and he will have a fabulous teacher, Miss Zipp.  She was also Isaiah’s K teacher.  Isaiah’s teacher is new to Faith Academy this year and we are looking forward to meeting her soon.  She is still wrapping up things in the States and Isaiah will have a sub for a few weeks until she gets here.  Please pray she will receive all the support she needs to move to the Philippines and that Isaiah’s class will do well in the mean time.  Also keep Ian in your prayers as he adjusts to being in school for a full day for the first time.  Pray that he will cooperate with his teacher and classmates and stay focused on his activities. It is good to be back on our routine and to be serving God in such awesome ways. We are so blessed.  It is such a joy to be an extension of all of your ministries here in the Philippines.  Please keep us in your prayers as God leads us and provides for us daily, both spiritually and physically. We truly believe that Jesus Christ is the hope of all nations and we each have a part to play in bringing that hope to those around us!  May God help us spread that hope to those who need it. Buy Orovo to Live Rich in Health and Happiness

Buy Orovo because I have shopped around on the internet and there are so many health and beauty products on the market today.  But the problem was that they are always overpriced.  Orovo provided something that was super effective and also affordable. Like any product, there must be criteria and guidelines in order to review a product.  Here are the four biggest deciding factors when it comes to choosing a diet pill. 1) Effectiveness 2) Ingredients 3) Safety 4) Price Effectiveness: Consumers see results within a few weeks.  Many testimonials have stated that they feel more energized and motivated in the mornings.  This company states that their product can get rid of acne and blackheads.  Furthermore, they claim to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.  At the same time, this pill can help consumers lose weight.  But does it really work?? We went ahead and asked the consumers of this product.  Consumers were surveyed and 98 percent were completely satisfied when they are asked about whether they saw results from using the product.  This product is effective because of the advanced research that went into the selection of the ingredients. Ingredients: These ingredients actually contain all of the Top 10 Superfoods from the world renowned dermatologist Dr. Perricone.  The researchers at Orovo came up with additional ingredients (green tea, alpha lipoic acid, DMAE, and idebennone) to help with anti-aging, wrinkle reducing, and weight loss.  They also contain antioxidants which is scientifically proven to help reduce the risk of cancer.  Buy Orovo because they put it all in one pill. Safety: One of the biggest concerns when it comes to choosing a product on the internet is whether a product is safe or not.  People often wonder if there would be any side effects or allergic reactions.  About 1% of the population will find that they are allergic to one of the ingredients.  All the ingredients are 100% natural and so it is absolutely safe.  Scientists have done in depth research on each of the individual ingredients. Price: Across the board, Orovo is by far the cheapest for its value.  You can buy orovo in a bottle that will last a month for only $39.99.  All the other Orovo products are sold at wholesale price for members.  There are no other products out there on the market that can come close to matching Orovo’s prices. How the System works: Orovo provides a really simple way of buying, shipping, and consuming.  Consumers can access it online at OROVO.com. Once you buy the product, you are considered a member.  This gives the consumer the option of buying other top-of-the-line products for weight loss, skin care, muscle gaining, and facial cleansing at wholesale prices.  Furthermore, they can have the autoship option where they can have this bottle of Orovo renewed every single month without having the hassle of reordering.  The reordering is done automatically.  There is also a cancellation option if someone wants to stop using it.  Orovo members have the option of telling a friend about the product and can get compensated for each friend referred. Take a look at their Orovo’s Lifessence HGH plus.  Mail this postPopularity: 36% [?]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Buy Orovo to Live Rich in Health and Happiness", url: "http://www.my-orovo.com/general-health/buy-orovo-to-live-rich-in-health-and-happiness" }); Technorati Tags: buy orovo, effective ingredient, health, health and happiness, live rich, orovo detox weight loss Tags: buy orovo, effective ingredient, health, health and happiness, live rich, orovo detox weight loss

The Average Termite Eats 24 Hrs A Day Posted by admin on May 28th, 2008 filed in Webanalytics general Stephen over at they Freakonomics blog of the NY Times found a great advertising in Southern California: “There is a TV ad running here in Southern California for a pest control company. It states that “the average termite eats 24 hours a day, 7 days a week,” so your million dollar home is at risk.” I guess the top termites are probably able to eat 25-27 hrs a day. Back to some seriousness: The “Averages” are quite an interesting metric and often completely misinterpreted. The ad above also reminds me of the famous “Average Revenue per Lead”, which pretty much says nothing without having more metrics in context. Still a lot of people use  the Average Revenue per Lead way too often. I’ve been extremely impressed by the quality and selection of downloads from HypnosisDownloads.com over the years.  They now offer a cool search box as seen below, that allows you to search for a particular issue that you’re dealing with.  They have a great selection of downloadable audio programs, the prices are very reasonable and the downloads are ready to use in just minutes after purchase, (no waiting on snail mail!)  Got a problem or issue you need help with? Give it a try! Just plug in a keyword or phrase such as, “stop smoking”, “snake phobia”, “insomnia”, “weight loss”, etc.. & hit the search key to see what it finds. Hundreds of audios available. Search the self hypnosis sessions below or browse over 300 self hypnosis mp3s Search for: Overall Rating: 1.8
