Does Displaying My Computer On My Hdtv slow Down The Computer?
July 27th, 2009 by Elextron | Filed under HDTV.
I’m currently able to display my XPS 420 on to my HDTV using a HDMI cable. I was just curious if it will slow down my computer if I have the HDMI cable plugged in at all times. I just want to leave it and just turn on my tv to HDMI 2 when I want to display. Thanks in advance.

Smartbro’s Prepaid Internet slow for Laptops
I’m using the Smartbro Prepaid Wireless Internet. The connection is terribly slow and may not be feasible for laptops and desktops for long-term use. It takes me an hour to publish an article 200-word long because my internet connection is very unstable. It must have something to do with the signals transmitted by cell sites of Smart which are not good at the moment. I’ve tried the Smartbro Prepaid Wireless Internet in Laoag City and here in Baguio but the results are the same. I can only make use of this as a spare connection in cases when it’s best to stay at home for some reasons than go outside and rent. I’ll just be patient with the low bandwidth. A little later today my wife and I are going to check her testing center (Pines City Colleges) and we hope to avoid the rush (traffic and volume of examinees verifying their names and room assingments). The Nursing Board Exam has taken its toll on me after multitasking as a reviewer, thesis writer, blogger, and a dedicated grandfather. Ouch! I hope my blogging habits will be normalized despite my failing Smartbro Prepaid internet connection. My laptop is in good condition and runs faster than any computer I have used before but the Smartbro Prepaid internet sucks and so my blog life is once again affected. I hope to find a “cure” to this problem by doing some tweaks with the connection settings later when we arrive from the testing center.

Multitalented but stressed – slow down, you move too fast
anxiety relief products, treating stress, gifted people and anxiety, gifted people and stress The high frequency nervous system of multitalented people is the engine for great creative work, but can also be a major factor in stress. Intensity and sensitivity – a couple of the hallmarks of people with exceptional intellectual and creative potential – can encourage anxiety. Henry Rollins has often impressed me with his energy and passion. In the video below, the singer-songwriter, spoken word artist, stand-up comedian, author, actor, activist and publisher is engaging in another of his thoughtful and informed rants – this time on the science of Evolution versus the “lazy pseudo-science of Intelligent Design.” … Excitabilites / Overexcitabilities In a 1988 interview, Rollins said, “Yes, I’m a very excitable person. I was on Ritalin for like 8 years. I was a wild young man. That’s why I was sent to discipline school for 7 years. “Yeah, that’s the way I feel music.. I freak out because the music just drives me crazy. I go nuts and if I wasn’t in shape I would just rip myself apart. I love physical exertion.” That may also be a good description of Overexcitabilities – “inborn intensities indicating a heightened ability to respond to stimuli. “Found to a greater degree in creative and gifted individuals, overexcitabilities are expressed in increased sensitivity, awareness, and intensity, and represent a real difference in the fabric of life and quality of experience.” The Psychomotor form of excitability or intensity includes a “capacity for being active and energetic, love of movement for its own sake, surplus of energy demonstrated by rapid speech, zealous enthusiasm, intense physical activity, and a need for action..” [From article Overexcitability and the gifted, by Sharon Lind.] Our high speed life An interesting UK site Pace of Life reports on an international study to measure the speed of life in various cities. A quiz on the site includes these items: Do people tell you that you talk too quickly? When someone takes too long to get to the point, do you feel like hurrying them along? These questions supposedly indicate living a fast-paced life, but maybe they equally characterize being gifted. Traits and characteristics My site page on Self-tests : giftedness / high ability includes these Sample Questions from the book “The Gifted Adult”: I have always had an insatiable curiosity. I am able to run my mind on multiple tracks at the same time. I am often considered a “driven” person. I can and do work myself to exhaustion. Hyped up life can be draining Frenetic, over-scheduled lifestyles affect many or most residents of major cities around the world, especially when there is so much pressure to multitask. See my article Multitasking – or optimal performance. Not only inefficient, multitasking can be energy depleting. It can be helpful to concentrate on doing less at a time, more effectively. I am finding it helps to cut down on watching TV while working on the computer, for example. More alive – more stress, anxiety Dancer Martha Graham declared, “No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others.” Yes, more alive – but also more vulnerable to stress. Psychiatrist Kazimierz Dabrowski found that the most gifted and creative individuals he worked with, during times of crisis “exhibited so-called neurotic symptoms – intense inner conflict, feelings of inferiority toward their own ideals, feelings of inadequacy, shame and guilt, and existential anxiety and despair.” From my article Gifted and Stressed. So what to do about anxiety, stress, overload? slow down, you move too fast You got to make the morning last Just kicking down the cobblestones Looking for fun and feeling groovy From the album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme (1966) by Simon & Garfunkel — quoted in the post slow down, you move too fast on the site Coaching Wizardry – Living Life On Purpose. Regaining emotional balance Mindfulness and meditation are effective strategies for slowing down and regaining more equilibrium. In Ten Zen Seconds for Purpose, Power and Calm, my interview with therapist and creativity coach Eric Maisel, PhD about his book (the image is from the cover) on the topics of breath awareness and centering as a strategy to feel less scattered, distracted, chaotic, anxious, and nervous, I asked him about an enduring mythology about creative inspiration and performing as an actor, for example – that it benefits from an “edge” of nervous tension or even anxiety. Dr. Maisel replied, “It isn’t at all clear that tension or anxiety is what’s needed for peak performance and lifelong creativity. They may be unavoidable by-products of the difficulties that we face as we try to do large things and connected to our fear of failing, fear of making messes and mistakes, and so on, but they are not beneficial per se.” He details in his book Ten Zen Seconds: Twelve Incantations for Purpose, Power and Calm a practice combining deep breathing with “incantations” (phrases to focus thinking), designed to facilitate greater awareness, resolve and other benefits including stress management. Energy psychiatrist Judith Orloff, MD works with many actors, directors and others, and affirms, “Creative people are extremely sensitive. Their neurologic systems are very finely tuned, and open to all kinds of energies from the outside. “So it’s important that they protect their energies and nurture them, and not be overwhelmed. And to learn strategies that center themselves, and not absorb everything around them. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to really create and manifest all their fantastic talent.” From Transforming Strong Negative Emotions – the transcript of my podcast interview with Dr. Orloff on her new book Emotional Freedom. She includes in the book a three-minute meditation to control social anxiety, stage fright, and other varieties of anxiety. A much more in-depth approach to meditation is available with Holosync programs from Centerpointe Research Institute. See multiple articles by Bill Harris in which he explains the research behind this binaural beat sound technology that fairly quickly facilitates the brain slowing and synchronization found after years of traditional meditation.

« Jamendo Funky Reggae Rock Pick If You’re a Facebooker… » Thoughts on a slow Sunday Tagged and Bagged: internet, Work Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.Powered by WP Greet BoxHere I am at work, not doing much work. I am on the phone and ready to take a phone call from one of our customers. However, they don’t seem to be calling in. This is a good thing. That means that they are either not on the internet and don’t care about their connection right now, or they’re able to surf fine (meaning that our service is working! we don’t WANT them to have to call). So, I’ve not ever really gone into any detail about my new job. I’ve only mentioned that I have a new one. There’s a reason for that, of course. I didn’t want to “put it out there” only to find that it wasn’t a good fit. So far, I thin that it is a good fit. I’ve enjoyed this job from the moment I was offered the position. I work for an ISP. From what you’ve read before on my little slab of the intarwebs, you’ll notice that I have a bent toward the more technical, computery stuff. This job is a 1st level technical support position, so I get a lot of exposure to computery stuff. In slow cooker, mix ground beef and the remaining ingredients except the spaghetti. Cover and cook at the low setting for 6-8 hours. About 30 minutes before serving, cook spaghetti as directed on package. Serve over spaghetti. Now, this should make about 6 servings. This is a somewhat bland sauce (I have two little ones whose food can’t be too spicy), so you can adjust this easy to make recipe accordingly. Life is uncertain. Eat dessert first. We at slow Food Sacramento echo American writer Ernestine Ulmer’s sentiments and are pleased to partner with three local treasures: Old Soul Coffee, Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates and Bogle Winery to host an educational seminar to learn about the dynamics of chocolate, coffee and port pairings, and to meet some of our area’s finest food and beverage artisans. And, after dessert, port and coffee, why not have dinner at one of Midtown’s excellent eateries?

Chocolate.
Ginger Elizabeth Powers, purveyor of Ginger Elizabeth Chocolate in Midtown Sacramento, will discuss the different kind of cacao beans and the trees they come from, as well as how chocolate is made and how fine chocolate differs from regular chocolate.
See what others are saying about Ginger Elizabeth Chocolate:

TwinSoup
Sacatomato

Port.
Winemaker Eric Aafedt from Bogle Vineyards and Winery in Clarksburg will share his port-making approach as well as the family’s history and winemaking style. Eric is responsible for crafting Bogle’s unique Petite Sirah Port, sourced from the Old River Vineyard, directly across Elk Slough from the Bogle homestead.
Coffee.
Jason Griest, expert coffee roaster and co-owner of the Old Soul Company, will host the educational seminar and talk about his philosophy of community, using only fair trade and organically grown beans.

Recipe collection: slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes
Published by Amy at 7:52 pm under Recipes
Another recipe I can’t eat (both the sour cream and cream cheese give me migraines), but I made it a few times before I figured it out, it was requested often and gone in no time…. From allrecipes.com slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes 5 pounds red potatoes, cut into chunks 1 tablespoon minced garlic, or to taste 3 cubes chicken bouillon 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened 1/2 cup butter salt and pepper to taste In a large pot of lightly salted boiling water, cook the potatoes, garlic, and bouillon until potatoes are tender but firm, about 15 minutes. Drain, reserving water. In a bowl, mash potatoes with sour cream and cream cheese, adding reserved water as needed to attain desired consistency. Transfer the potato mixture to a slow cooker, cover, and cook on Low for 2 to 3 hours. Just before serving, stir in butter and season with salt and pepper to taste.

More Memory for a slow Computer?
Blogging Talk To Me
My computer, as I told you before just had to be reformatted. I lost all kinds of stuff that I didn’t want to lose, and loads of pictures that can’t be replaced. I have learned my lesson that’s for sure. To always back up and to make sure that I burn my pictures to cd. Oh well, live and learn, and it seems I live and learn a lot! I do a lot more on my computer than I used to when I first got this one about a year and 1/2 ago. Lately its been moving slower. I was told that I should buy memory. I don’t know. Maybe it’s just time to get a new desktop. I have a new laptop that Dr. Corny bought me for XMas last year, and I do like it, but not as much as I like my desktop. The laptop is nice for being away from home, or just outside by the pool. When I want to get things done, I want to do it on my desktop. I think it’s the keyboard that slows me up on the laptop, and the lack of a mouse. I guess I will ask Dr. Corny what he thinks. More Memory or replace this one completely. I think if I am going to replace it, I will just hold off and wait until it dies completely. It’s not something I want to spend money on right now.

The Long slow Slide Into Optional Education? Maybe Not.
If a teacher follows the curriculum there “is no problem.”
Apparently the leader of our province doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Or maybe is it was just wishful thinking? A report late last week suggested that the Government of Alberta has proposed legislation that would allow parents to opt-out their kids from classes purely on the basis of religious ideology. CBC wrote: “The new rules, which would require schools to notify parents in advance of “subject-matter that deals explicitly with religion, sexuality or sexual orientation,” is buried in a bill that extends human rights to homosexuals. Parents can ask for their child to be excluded from the discussion.” But an updated report posted on the CBC’s site this morning suggests the bill might actually be a win for science education advocates. In opposition to the speculation by the Premier last week, the minister of human rights corrected the statement saying: “This is opt-out on religious instruction not on grounds of religious beliefs. So the thought that somebody can get out of evolution using the fact that it’s against their religious beliefs is not correct. Evolution is not a part of religious studies, it’s part of science curriculum, and there is nothing that will change that going forward.” To me, that sounds like I can opt my kid out of creationism nonsense, and not the other way around. Curriculum rules. That said, the moment we make any education optional we’re allowing bias to creep into the cracks of an otherwise solid foundation of critical thinking. So, what say? Is the bill really the demon we’re all making it out to be? The SkepDad Blog is meant to casually reflect on questions surrounding parenting and raising kids to become critical thinkers by asking questions and examining parenting ideas with a skeptical eye for facts and science. Each article is one dad's personal opinion, backed (where relevant) by literature and published research, or otherwise based on personal experiences and insights. SkepDad welcomes balanced discussion, comments, and ideas.
