Put Your Talents Online and Generate Big Business

Online Marketing
Put Your Talents Online and Generate Big Business (ARA) – Everyone, businesses and individuals alike, is struggling in today’s economy. When you need extra income or are facing a layoff, taking your talents online can generate big business and even a new career. Whether you already have a Web site or are considering one, it’s important to think about how to attract customers to your business. Nearly everyone uses search engines to find a product or service, so having your business show up in a Google search is far more important than an advertisement in the phone book. In fact, according to a 2008 eMarketer study, only 2 percent of advertisers believe they receive a worthwhile return on investment with a Yellow Pages placement, compared to more than 50 percent who engage in online marketing and advertising. Small, strategic investments in online marketing can make your business Web site much more visible, and grow your revenues. Get Found by Search Engines Search engines scan Web sites for keywords to determine what the site is about, and then rank the sites in order of relevance. To get your Web site listed in these natural (also called organic) listings, many businesses engage in search engine optimization (SEO). SEO incorporates specific key phrases into the content and programming code, so that a search engine is more likely to reward your site with higher rankings. SEO also includes building up a Web site’s popularity by getting links to it from other Web sites. According to a report from iProspect and Jupiter Research, 62 percent of searchers click on a link within the first page of results. Using SEO is a great way to increase your site’s natural search rankings and drive more traffic to your Web site (and more revenue to you). TIP: For the best results in SEO, start early. If you can incorporate optimization into the structure of your Web site as you build it, you’ll already be ahead of the curve. Consult an SEO expert about ways to get your site maximum exposure on search engines.  Although SEO is an ongoing process, getting your site designed with SEO in mind can save a lot of time and effort down the road. Turn Visitors into Customers Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is a cost-effective way to drive traffic through your doors, increase online orders, grow your list of contacts and get visitors to take action on your Web site. PPC is an advertising method in which ads are displayed on a search engine result page like Google or Yahoo!. These advertisements, or sponsored links, appear at the top or on the right side of a search results page. An advertiser only pays for an ad when a visitor clicks on it and is taken to the advertiser’s Web site. “Unlike traditional advertising, only consumers that are already searching for products and services you offer will see your PPC ads,” says Harry Brooks, director of search marketing for Network Solutions. “This can lead to a friendlier user experience for shoppers, less wasted ad costs for you, and a higher conversion rate for your ad campaigns all around.” Whether a customer is shopping for the product you create or the consulting service you provide, PPC ads can reach the right customers at the right time — when they are ready to buy. A recent study by Piper Jaffray & Co. found that the average cost per acquisition for search engine advertising was $8.50 versus $20 for advertising in the phone book. FACT: According to a study by iProspect, when a user encounters a PPC ad and an organic SEO listing on the same search result page, there is: * a 45 percent  increase in orders. * a 45 percent increase in actions taken on the Web site * a 43 percent increase in page views * 39 percent more time spent on the site Get the Word Out Online Media Marketing is another way to market and advertise your business online. Through press releases and e-mail campaigns, customers learn about your business and can find your products and services more easily. If you’ve got exciting news about your company — sales are up, you have a new product or you’ve recently appeared at an industry event — an online press release can build your site’s popularity and boost your search engine rankings even more. Targeted e-mail campaigns go the extra mile to reach out to your customers through newsletters and announcements. On the Internet, it is all about driving customers to your Web site, so the more you distribute information about your business electronically, the better. TIP:  In addition to distributing press releases online, posting releases onto a “news” section of your Web site is a great way to keep your site’s content fresh, which in turn helps with SEO rankings. Online Marketing
This video pretty much sums up how any small business can utilize the internet to service their local markets. It clearly illustrates why you as a small business owner should be paying attention…because applying it can do wonders for increasing your exposure within your community! (And with paying customers!) Branding for Small business Presentation
Written by Patrysha on April 10, 2009 at April 10th, 2009
Uncategorized
Yesterday, I had the honour of presenting live and via videoconference from the NABI (North Alberta business Incubator) office in St. Albert. How it came about would be a whole other post on the power of networking, but I’ll get to that another day. Or maybe later today – we’ll see how it goes. It is officially a holiday, after all. I’ll post a link here later whenever it is done. The presentation was on Branding for Small Business. I worked down a three hour seminar that I had once planned (but never delivered live) and combined it with a couple of recent projects to create a powerpoint and workbook to go along with the presentation. I also offered a free half hour consultation to anyone who attended the seminar. So far, only two have responded to the offer – I can’t figure out why no one else has. I gave out at least three free techniques that they could apply to their business for increased results. So maybe they are planning to try those things out and then look me up when they work. That would be cool! The truth is – I know most of the people in those rooms will likely never think about branding and really looking into the potential power of building a brand through careful positioning. I really don’t think I did a good enough job in showing the dollar value of branding – in the attempt to deliver information that could be applied immediately I took out the details where the “compelling reason why” was hidden. I’ll do better on that next time…if I get another chance. As I mentioned during the early part of the presentation branding is not my forte. I am a generalist who likes to pull a lot of different things together to create a robust, mostly automated marketing system that builds both brand equity and immediate sales by bringing together direct response principles with multi-media distribution. What that means is I like to be frugal about things and work first on helping my clients get the most of their current marketing. No one in business with a brick and mortar store or a local service based business can say they do not do any marketing. Your windows, your office, your letterhead, your business cards, brochures, your staff, your service…it’s all part of your marketing! Too many people confuse marketing with advertising. But that’s another post for another day. If you can get all your current marketing – in-store, yellow pages, local community guide, newspaper, brochures, business cards, letterhead, newsletters, radio, yellow pages – working together and then add online and direct mail to your existing customers and then adding a public relations angle to all your marketing promotions and events. Those are the type of things that I like pulling together. It’s not hard to pull it all together – but it is hard to pull it all together well if you don’t put it all together with your own personal passions and values -which brings us back to branding. Though I am not a world expert in the concepts behind building a brand, I do understand the basics and know without a doubt that your brand is foundational to marketing success. During the video conference, the question and answer period brought about some questions that I’ve now had a chance to think about more in-depth and will post additional thoughts that I didn’t think of in time to mention during the video conference. I am seriously considering doing that through video, but I’m truly not sure how much time small business owners spend scouring for information on marketing their business and whether many of them would like to learn through short videos. I really have to find an effective way of reaching more business owners directly and in ways that they can relate to.  I just don’t know how to do it, yet. In my experience, most small business owners wear so many different hats in their business that they spend much of their day “putting out fires” within their operations to deal with marketing at all. Even when business is slow they have to deal with customer relations, supplier issues, staff relations, advertising (if they do any) — not to mention that they may have family or medical issues that are taking their time and attention. I guess I’ve discovered that my next major goal is finding a way to deliver this information into the hands of people that can use it. I have ideas in landscaping, renovation, home decorating, retail stores (clothing, sports, furniture) plus some general concepts on wedding, gardening, spa, outdoor living and so on…but I obviously can’t use any of them. If you know of a way that I can share this information with small business owners who really want to do the most with a small budget, let me know! I’d love to be able to help more small businesses figure it all out so they can serve their customers and build long lasting relationships to help them ride out any economic storm. He liked people. He studied them. He watched how they developed and evolved. What held them back? What pushed them forward? How did humans behave? You might not care much about Maslow, but you should, especially if you’re into online business. Why Maslow is Famous Maslow realized people had five levels of needs to fulfill, from the most basic to the most evolved. People would satisfy the needs of one level and then work on fulfilling the next level’s set of needs. Some lucky people reach the apex, called self-actualization, but those folk are rare. We all start at the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy. We need to stay alive, so we fulfill the most basic aspects of survival. Food, water, sex, sleep… When you get right down to it, humans don’t need much. A nice meal, a good romp and a long snooze, and we’re happy. Once that’s all settled, we start working on fulfilling needs at the next level, that of security. We like a stable life. We enjoy having a steady job and an income. We want personal safety so we can feel that our world is right. When security needs are fulfilled, we move on to relationships and belonging. Humans are social creatures. We want to be liked and feel loved. We need friends and family. We want intimacy. Level four is about esteem – for self and for others. We work on self-confidence and self-worth. We earn respect from other people, and we learn to respect ourselves. We feel pretty good, in fact. Level five is the big one, where we introspect about our morality and explore our creativity. When you reach level five, you’re about two feet away from heaven, in my opinion. You feel complete – your life has been worthwhile. Uhhh… So What? Part of Maslow’s theory is that if you haven’t fulfilled the needs of a lower level, you can’t really move up to the next one up. You’re stuck until you feel comfortable. Your place in the hierarchy isn’t stable, either. You might reach a higher level, but an event in your life shakes a lower foundation – and shakes you down with it. People tend to move up and down Maslow’s hierarchy of needs all the time. Life’s great, and we get up to level four. The company we work for lays us off, and we’re back down to worrying over level two. We get a new job with new friends, and we’re at level three. But we’re not secure in that new job so we struggle with level two. What’s even cooler is that as we fulfill needs, we feel nothing. We don’t care much. It’s really no big deal. But if any need is unfulfilled, we feel anxious. We worry. We stress. We can’t forget about an unfulfilled need, because we just don’t feel comfortable. That’s important to your business, because there are two areas where Maslow’s hierarchy of needs come into play. How you sell to others, and the moves you make in your own business. Maslow and Marketing It’s useless and ineffective to target a market without knowing the full profile of the people you are trying to convince to buy. You have to know what need these people are trying to fulfill. Here’s an example: You have a great idea to fill the demand for the niche of building confidence. Fantastic. But you’re targeting new business owners. This group of people is at level two of the hierarchy – security. They’re worrying about their jobs and supporting their family. They don’t care about feeling confident. That means you have to adjust your marketing strategies and target people in a different way, honing into their worries and anxieties to sell. You may need to alter your sales tactics and push that a confident person achieves financial stability. Or, you can target the smaller group of people at the level four stage of esteem and tap into that market alone. Examine the world around you. What level are most of your friends at on Maslow’s hierarchy? Are they at level three, trying to build relationships? Are they at level two, stressing over income? Are they at level one, striving to feed a family? People aren’t going to care about what they already have. They are going to be anxious about what doesn’t feel settled in their lives. Your marketing strategies need to target people where they’re at, right here and right now. Maslow and You It’s important to know what level you’re at in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. What needs do you want to fulfill to feel good? What’s stopping you right now from reaching higher? Solve the issue. Focus on fulfilling your immediate needs so that you can strive for higher goals. If you reach up on a shaky ladder that doesn’t have a strong foundation, you’ll only fall when outside events rumble your world. So do a little introspection. Where are you sitting on Maslow’s hierarchy of needs? Are you in a new online business struggling to make some money? Maybe you’re contemplating leaving a company job to be an entrepreneur. If you are, you’re at level two. Or, maybe your business is doing well. You’re focusing on building relationships with others at the third level. Perhaps you’re at level four, examining your own confidence as you make moves and take decisions. You may be working towards earning respect from others or build your credibility. For example, I just recently placed a small microphone under a tree stump in my front yard. When the mail carrier tries to go by my house without picking up my outgoing mail, I pretend to be Satan tallying up that willful disregard for my postcards as a mark on the “bad boy” list. That guy NEVER forgets my Netflix. One of the reasons I can do things like this is because I work from home. The other reason is that I don’t have a conscience to speak of. The point is that I am of the privileged minority that gets to do stuff at home when I feel like taking a break instead of having to hang out by the water cooler trying to drain it quickly so Study McMuscles from Accounting comes by and heft a new bottle into place for me. If you have a small business, you know there are only so many hours in the day to get things done. You know there are also all sorts of little mindless tasks that you never do that could improve the quality of your business. Start making better use of that time than hanging out on YouTube watching cats play Parcheesi. (Incidentally, does it ever worry you that there are animals out there who know how to play games you don’t know how to play? It worries me.) “But I don’t want to work in my spare time!” you say. “I want to hang out and eat potato chips! What’s the fun of working from home if you can’t just screw around when you want to?” To which I reply, “Oh, my little biscuit. There will be plenty of time to screw around. Wouldn’t your spare time be way more relaxing if you had fewer things on your mind nagging at you because you knew you should be doing them?” Yes, yes it would. Let’s think about some of them: Doing Your Own Files Doing your files means anything from the accounting to sorting your tax receipts from your grocery receipts to putting all the information about each of your clients in a nicely labeled folder decorated with sunflowers and lightning bolts (very avant-garde, that). Every writer, designer, coach, consultant, hell, MASSEUSE I know has a pile of paperwork they never get around to taking care of. Invariably, this costs them money. Filing is fairly mindless work, which means you can throw on an episode of your favorite TV show while you’re doing it. You won’t even feel like you’re working. You’ll have nice neat files, and you won’t have to worry that you’ll have to scramble for receipts at tax time and won’t be able to write off that $2,000 bucks for a new computer because you can’t find the slip. Money and mindlessness! It doesn’t get any better. Update Your Email and Client List You have a huge number of people you know you should follow up with. But you don’t. You’ve forgotten. Let’s face it; anyone who sat in your inbox for longer than a week has been given up as a lost cause. The next time you have a spare hour or two to mess around with, put on some nice rockin’ tunes and go through your inbox. While you’re at it, figure out some sort of sorting system for your emails. I have a file in my email right now called “Contacts to Follow Up With”, which is grammatically incorrect, but since it’s my email no one cares. Once nicely sorted and perfectly organized, I can manage my email easily, save time better spent elsewhere (like learning Parcheesi) and make money from reminding clients they really do want to work with me. The next time you have spare time, go through that inbox, make a contact list and throw out a few emails. If only one in ten of those friendly nudges works out, that’s still a huge return on your little time investment. Go Hunting Before you hightail it to the nearest gun store, I’m talking about client hunting. Browse around your favorite blogs, websites, and forums. Pick up that stack of magazines and read them over again. Look through the news. Feels like screwing around, doesn’t it? Well, it is. The difference is that it’s screwing around with a purpose. While you’re re-reading that article on how to get the grout in your tub sparkly white without using chemicals, take note of the products they’re recommending. Go see if that company needs the services you’re selling. Do the same for interview subjects, companies mentioned as doing good work, or the authors of articles. If you read an article about great marketing and the author owns their own marketing company, see if they need your services. Mention the article. Tell them you like what they do. It works. There you go. That’s three ways to use your screw-around time without feeling like you’re working. Who’s got more to add? This is my “nature of business”, PayPal
Posted on Tuesday, January 22nd 2008 5:58 pm by menj in Internet, Payment Gateway
PayPal has limited my account, again, for the fourth time running. I have given them all the details they wanted (i.e., bank statement, utility bill) and guess what? They emailed me again saying that they want me to explain my “nature of business”. I do not know what the hell they want me to do, be a drug pusher? I am tempted to give them a piece of my mind as follows. I am tired of this nonsense by them, I am closing my account the moment the limitation is lifted.

Hello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.Powered by WP Greet Box Join the forum discussion and share your 2 cents on this post>> - (5) PostsI just had to share this skype conversation with you, that occurred a few minutes ago. I took dude’s name out, as to not punish him publicly (and his links out so I don’t promote him) for trying to recruit the Rosetta Stone of Internet Marketing , Prospecting and Recruiting (that’ me BTW). I think this serves as a great example of  "What NOT to do, while internet prospecting and networking". Let me know if you think I was too hard on the guy… [4:12:34 PM] Nick : Hey Malika Duke. I just make a movie. Took a LOT of time. Interested in seeing it? [4:12:56 PM] Malika Duke : what is it about. [4:13:22 PM] Malika Duke : give me the shorts, I’ll tell ya if I wantto se the rest. [4:13:30 PM] Nick : a company called XXXX. I made it for them. [4:13:42 PM] Malika Duke : what is it about? [4:13:48 PM] Nick : OK… [4:14:13 PM] Nick : Here’s my quick overview… I just finished the… XXXX "COMPENSATION PLAN" Movie. Tell me you have EVER seen a better pay-plan and cooler business model and I’ll eat my hat. Really. NO QUALIFICATIONS to collect 5% commissions (unlimited width) 10 levels deep  on over 50 income streams (cool upgrades from all the FREE systems in XXX > "very" similar to Twitter, Facebook, Match.com, Sykpe, Google, Yahoo,  MySpace, etc., etc. COMBINED)… PLUS - No Qualifications to earn "all" cash "dividends" due from the PEPs (PEPs = equity in XXX) you own, from EVERY member worldwide who upgrades or buys more PEPs in XXX (even if they joined "months" before you). Watch my short XXX Compensation Plan movie here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nuv9eZ9xxx Then, see a marketing website I build for our team to use Free at: http://www.sxxxx.info. Then…LET’S ROCK!!  XXXX launches posibly this week yet. I now have over 3,000 on my team in about 8 weeks. You Have Never Seen ANYTHING Like XXXX!!   N-O-T-H-I-N-G!! Nick www.xxxx.us No income guarantees promised [4:14:43 PM] Malika Duke : that doesn’t tell me WHAT its about. [4:14:45 PM] Nick : Yeah I know…Toooo hypy for you… [4:14:47 PM] Nick : LOL [4:15:27 PM] N ick : But for some of my buddies, this will get their attention.  I slant different marketing towards different people. [4:15:30 PM] Malika Duke : no wonder our always opportunity seeking. Your offer creation and communication suck ass! [4:15:43 PM] N ick : This page WILL tell you what it’s about [4:15:49 PM] Nick : www.xxxx.us [4:16:00 PM] Malika Duke : no you willl. or I an not clicking. [4:16:59 PM] Nick : XXX is a  FREE system > "very" similar to Twitter, Facebook, Match.com, Sykpe, Google, Yahoo,  MySpace, etc., etc. COMBINED)… [4:17:27 PM] Malika Duke : so whay did they make it. what problem is it solving? [4:18:31 PM] Nick: Unlike thecompanies mentioned above, XXXX actually pays it members for their partnership and helping them to build. [4:19:02 PM] Nick : They offer a zillion FREE to use, cool services and products like the companies above. [4:19:05 PM] Malika Duke : Thats bull. so its more like direct matches? [4:20:11 PM] Nick : WAY different than Direct Matches!!  Nothing like direct matches. [4:20:28 PM] Malika Duke: that it’s like {insert free toll here} but you get paid to refer is so totally dumb. it’ll just be bottom feeders who spam the clueless to sign up up for profit. [4:20:49 PM] Malika Duke : ludacris! [4:20:53 PM] Malika Duke : laughable. [4:21:03 PM] Nick: You can listen to my 38 minute interview with XXXX’s CEO, ChristianFortune  to understand this better. [4:21:04 PM] Malika Duke : except I’m nit amused. [4:21:26 PM] Malika Duke : nope. I know enough to say no thanks now. [4:21:34 PM] Nick : It is alos at www.xxxs.us (my personal page) [4:21:39 PM] Malika Duke : nope. [4:21:46 PM] Nick : Then, they offer "upgrades" on those (these are the over 50 income streams) that the company shares its money [4:21:57 PM] Nick : They don’t pay on free stuff of course. [4:22:00 PM] Malika Duke : now your just insulting me! [4:22:32 PM] Nick : I believe that if you take a "close" look, you may even think it’s brilliant. But you would have to look closely! [4:22:48 PM] Malika Duke : now this is amusing….lolololol. paid Social Networks suck. [4:23:51 PM] Nick : Wow, you are THE hardest person Ihave ever tried to prospect.  I may not be your sytle but I have built monthly incomes of over $25K and downlines of 300,000, 7,000, 3,800 in good companies. [4:24:18 PM] Malika Duke : Now I really gotta go, I’m in the middle of writing a sakes letter for a course to tach people who to stay away from stuff like this and sell there on consulting business… or even use the consulting as a funded proposal for other opportunities. Peace and much success Nick. [4:24:54 PM] Nick : Please just taske a look at www.xxxx.us and then make up your mind as to weather I’m insulting you and out of my mind. [4:24:56 PM] Malika Duke : Good for you. What does that matter? [4:25:15 PM] Malika Duke : where are these companies now Nick? [4:25:30 PM] Malika Duke : what are these ‘good companies" doing? [4:25:43 PM] Nick : Gano Excel isSTILL here and I have earneda very nice fulltime incoem for 5 years. [4:25:52 PM] Nick : The other 2 are bye-bye. [4:26:09 PM] Nick : God bless you Malika.
